April is School Library Month
Drew Eagles,
Thank you for continuing to SPRING into the Reading! April is School Library Month and I appreciate all of your enthusiasm and love for our Library. The Drew Librarians are very proud of the work that we do and we love sharing the love of Reading with our Drew Community. Below is more information about School Library Media Month!
School Library Month is the American Association of School Librarians' celebration of school librarians and school libraries. Every April school librarians are encouraged to host activities to help their school and local community celebrate the essential role that strong school libraries play in transforming learning. The AASL efforts for a national School Library Month were spearheaded by Lucille Thomas, chair of the School Library Media Month Committee. Thomas was appointed by President Judy King in 1983. Their work came to fruition on April 1, 1985, when AASL officials, local and national dignitaries got the first School Library Month off to a rousing start with a ceremony on the west steps of the U.S. Capitol. To learn more about School Library Month, enjoy the video by celebrated author Jason Reynolds and click here for more information. Interested in Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl or Picture Book Reading Bowl Team for next year.?
Attention rising 4th and 5th graders! The titles are in for the 24-25 Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl ! If you are interested please check out the list below for 4-5 only. The list has the books for 4-8 but we only read the books for 4-5. Unfortunately, I do not have enough books to give all of the kids that are interested in trying out. I encourage everyone to grab the books from your local public libraries. Try-outs will happen in August, so there is plenty of time to read the books!
Attention Rising 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Grade Scholars!
If you are interested in trying out for the Picture Book Reading Bowl Team for 24-25 School year the titles are listed below. As with the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl, I do not have enough copies to give to all the students that are interested in trying out for the team. The kids will have to read 20 books and I suggest getting a head start and checking the public library for titles. We will have tryouts in August!
