Unit question: Is imagination more valuable than knowledge?
We are closing our fantasy unit celebrating the fantasy stories that we have written and read. We have explored the elements of a fantasy story, the characters and settings of fantasy stories, have read and analyzed the language of poetry and have read stories thinking specifically about how the author wrote and used techniques to convey his meaning.
The students have enjoyed writing stories that let their imaginations go wild.
Fifth Grade Math Workshop
The fifth graders have been developing their skills with adding fractions with unlike denominators. They have been adding both fractions and mixed numbers. Next week, students will be working with subtracting fractions and mixed numbers.
The targets or big ideas for fifth grade are:
- I can explain, recognize, and generate equivalent fractions.
- I can use a variety of strategies to add and subtract fractions and mixed numberswith unlike denominators.
School Counselor, Mrs. Edwards
This month, the classroom guidance lesson addressed anger management and developing coping skills. Students learned to identify different emotions and strategies to help them manage their emotions. Coping skills help improve mental well-being and strengthen our abilities to handle difficult situations. The school counselor provides an activity done in class to further learning. Ask your student about this activity and the things they’ve learned from it.
