PARENT/CAREGIVERS TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Our teachers will be conducting Parent/Caregivers Interviews during the week beginning 21 June 2021(Term 2, Week 10).
I would like to invite you to meet with your child’s classroom teacher to discuss your child’s progress at school.
Each teacher has made themselves available on the evening of Wednesday 23 June as well as other times during the week. Please see the available times for each teacher and make a booking.
Bookings are essential. Bookings can be made by following the link belowIf you do not have access to the internet, please visit the school office, where we will help you make a booking.
I look forward to seeing everyone during the week beginning 21 June 2021.
Get the most from parent teacher interview
The interview provides an opportunity to discuss your child’s current learning progress, and determine their next learning goals, in consultation with their teacher.
All parents/carers are encouraged to make the effort to attend a parent teacher interview; don’t miss the chance to hear positive things about your child that they may not tell you themselves. It's equally rewarding for teachers to share good news with parents and carers.
Most interviews are scheduled for 15 minutes. To get the most out of the interview it is important to be well prepared.
Do your homework.
Take a few minutes before your meeting to jot down any questions or comments you have, this may include;
- How is my child fitting in with other children?
- What are the students working on now?
- Is there anything about my child's needs that I should know?
- Does my child ask questions, participate in class discussions and other activities?
- Is my child's progress satisfactory?
- What activities does my child seem to enjoy the most at school?
- Who are my child's friends?
- Does my child join in with other children in the playground?
- What kinds of things will the class be doing over the next few weeks?
- How is my child progressing in comparison to others in the year?
- Do you have any concerns about my child?
- Can you tell me the best time and way to contact you if I have a query or concern?
- What can I do at home to help my child?
Also, list anything that might be happening at home that may be helpful for your child's teacher to know. If your child has seen a specialist for example, there may be some information that is important for the teacher or the school counsellor to know.
Walk away with an agreed plan.
If the teacher raises issues about your child's learning, development or behaviour, your goal will be to understand how they are planning to manage these issues during the school day and how you can provide support at home.
For example, if your child needs to pay more attention in class and stop distracting others, a behaviour diary which travels between class and home may be a good suggestion.
Plan to communicate.
The Parent Teacher interview is not the only time you can discuss your child with the teacher, but many parents find it's their only opportunity to visit the school. Ask the teacher how you can best communicate with each other in the future.
After the interview.
It's important to discuss the meeting with your child and congratulate them on their strengths. If the teacher made suggestions of things you could do at home, discuss these with your child and commit to following through with them.
Technology Levy 2021 (friendly reminder)
In 2020 our school, with the endorsement of the P and C, introduced a Technology Levy of $10.00.
Over the past 5 years the school has purchased Chrome Book computers so that every student in Years 3 to 6 has their own device. We have complimented the Chrome Books with wireless access points in every classroom and Interactive boards for all our classrooms.
We believe the investment in future focused learning tools are essential for the continued development of our students. We desire to have our students placed in the best possible position to be successful at school and into their future learning and employment.
The cost of maintaining, upgrading and replacing these technologies is expensive. We are asking for a small contribution from you to help us continue our innovative practices to support your child.
The funds gathered from this levy are strictly dedicated to technology improvements which will enhance the learning experiences of our students.
The technology levy will be used to:
- acquire, install, and maintain up-to-date and emerging technologies to enhance student learning outcomes
- access technical assistance and technology maintenance

Thank you for your support
News from the Library
In the upper years we have been studying the process of book reviews. We have been learning the information they contain and how we can share our opinions in Oliver and create book reviews. Hopefully we can encourage our students to share their opinions on the books they choose to read and advertise the wonderful stories our library has to offer. I believe the students of St Marys South Public School will be the some of the biggest influences on what they read because these children know what they want and what they think is interesting.
