Cycle 1 - From Farm to Table
Cycle 1 will be working on a special project throughout the school year. They will be learning where our food comes from through a Farm to Table grant we received. So far they have visited a greenhouse, a garden, a leek and blueberry producer. We went apple and squash picking. We will be cooking with the students also throughout the year. Stay tuned...lots of interesting things to come.
Apple & Squash Picking
The whole school had a wonderful time (even if it was raining) at the apple orchard on October 2nd. After filling our bags we headed to a pumpkin patch and had fun in the corn maze before picking our own pumpkins for Halloween.
Learning About Government
Some of our Cycle 3 students attended the municipal council meeting on October 7th. They are learning about government and democracy in class and all about voting. Thank you to Mayor Brent Montgomery and the council members for letting us learn about how a council works and why it is important!
Nature Club
Nature Club began in September and we wanted to work outside in the yard, but we were rained out! We discussed differed subjects we want to look at this year and make paper weights with rocks form Nova Scotia and dried flowers. In October we will be planting a few trees in the back yard.
Farm Credit Canada Food Drive
Food for our community!
Once again this year, Valcartier Elementary School students and staff will be asked to participate in the Farm Credit Canada Food Drive. It will be held during the week of October 21st, 2019. Each day everyone will be asked to bring in a specific item to replenish the food hamper located at the municipal hall. A note will be sent home - I am positive we can do a great job!
Meet our new Mascot - Val Cartier
Our new mascot was revealed the day we held our Terry Fox run. 'Val' stopped the traffic so the students could cross the street safely. Maybe we could keep Val there all the time since the people who drive in front of the school don't seem to know what the speed limit is.
Terry Fox Run
Our students should be very proud of how much money they raised for the Terry Fox Run this year. Over $1800 was raised which brought our all-time total to over 45,000. Well done!
Principal Sundae
I don't think we need to add too many words to show how excited the students were to turn Ms Longney into a sundae! Congrats to our students for their efforts !
Pirate Day in Kinnear's Mills
This past summer 3 of our students went to Kinnear's Mills to participate in a special English Pirate Day at their English camp. They helped Ms Emma with her activities and did a great job decorating the old school house. The next event in Kinnear's Mills will be for Halloween on October 26th!
MASQUERADE BALL
For the very first time Valcartier Elementary School will hold a Masquerade Ball on Friday, November 1st. Don't put your Halloween costume away too early - come and join us in the school gym for some food and some fun! Bring your family, learn how to waltz! Remember to wear a masquerade mask! Finger food will be served and all are welcome. Cost $5 per family. The money raised will go towards the arts at Valcartier Elementary School.
Remembrance Day Ceremony
Once again this year, the grade 5/6 students from Valcartier Elementary will host a Remembrance Day Ceremony for the whole community. The event will be held at the community centre starting at 10h30 on Monday, November 11th. EVERYONE is welcome to attend this special ceremony.
