What is forging

Forging is the striking at the end of the branches of the hoof or the undersurface of the shoe at the forefront with the toe of the back foot.

When is forging most common

Forging is most common when horses are using a fast tempo to work. It can happen in any of the three gaits.

What causes forging

Forging is the overreaching of the hind toe and the front toe. You are able to hear forging.


Wounds are mostly caused to the lower part of the front leg.
