Options for COVID Testing and Vaccinations
As mentioned in Dr. Wilson's weekly update, CUSD is hosting a vaccination clinic at Claremont High School on September 9 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Anyone with a birthday on or before September 9, 2009, is eligible for this no-cost Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. Use this link to reserve a vaccination. One form must be completed for each person getting a vaccine.
In addition, CUSD continues to offer COVID-19 testing for all students and community members. Thursday evenings from 2:00 PM-6:00 PM, community members are able to receive a COVID test at Claremont High School. There are no out-of-pocket costs, and results are generally available within 24 hours.
This COVID-19 Flow Chart not only provides helpful information regarding what to do in case of exposure, it also provides helpful links to testing sites. Using the links at the bottom of the page, individuals may locate testing sites based on their preferences.
Earthquake kits needed
Sycamore takes steps throughout the year to prepare students and staff for emergencies. We practice fire drills monthly, earthquake drills twice a year and lockdown responses four times per year. Should we have an earthquake while at school, we have supplies to support students and staff while we wait for families to get to campus. As we wait, having a few family-provided supplies will be of comfort. Please create an "Earthquake Kit" for your child and send it to school by September 20. This kit will be stored on campus for the year and returned to you in June. Please enclose the items in a Zip-loc bag and label the bag with your child’s name. If you need assistance, please let us know.
Emergency Kit
-1 completely self-contained meal (non-perishable foods that do not need cooking)
-1 individual serving of juice as necessary for health needs (water is stored on campus)
-1 Mylar blanket (available at Target, M&I Surplus or camping supply stores)
-1 small note pad and pencil/crayon, or a game
-1 packet of tissue
-1 personal note, poem, quote, or photo from a loved one addressed to the child
Thank you!
CUSD's Family Engagement Calendar
This year's Family Engagement Calendar has been posted on under the parents tab of the district's website. Please check this calendar periodically as additional events will be added as they become available. This Wednesday afternoon, "Rising Together: Adverse Childhood Experiences Community Webinar" will be held. Attendees will learn about buffering strategies to build resilience and provide support for those who have experienced trauma and adversity. On Thursday afternoon, a one-hour Suicide Prevention webinar will be shared. All community members are welcome to join. If you have questions, please contact Rosa Leong, CUSD's Community Liaison at 909-398-0609 ext. 70246.
Eating at school
Each morning, teachers ask students about their plans for lunch and whether they need a lunch from the school cafeteria. Those lunch counts allow our Cafeteria Manager, Nora Romero, to prepare lunch, so accuracy is important. Please help your child to be aware of the lunch selections so you can plan for whether they will bring a home lunch or choose one from the cafeteria. A monthly menu is available at the Nutritional Services website.
Students who need to eat breakfast at school may enter for breakfast at the southernmost Yale gate between 7:45 AM and 8:00 AM. Look for the orange sign. Fruit is provided at morning recess. Breakfast, lunch and snack is free of cost. We are hearing that supply chains are sometimes affected by current conditions. This may result in a menu change. The Nutritional Services Department will give advance notice, if possible.
Whether eating a school lunch or one from home, we remind students to eat only the items given to them by the cafeteria or their family. We'll not be sharing food items. Please talk with your child about this important safety practice!
Parents are no longer required to fill out an application to qualify for free meals. Still, there are additional benefits of eligibility status. P-EBT cards, band instrument usage, reduced or waived assessment fees, and tutoring are a few of the benefits students can still receive when you apply. You can find a printable or electronic copy of the application under the Nutritional Services tab in the CUSD website. Please call their department if you have any questions. (909)398-0609 X 73003.
