Week 32: April 19-23, 2021

Schools Reopening 4/26 for Hybrid Instruction!

Parents/guardians will have the option to choose if their student remains in distance learning or returns to school for in-person instruction in a hybrid model.


All parents must complete the survey and indicate whether your child will continue with Distance Learning, or if you prefer the hybrid/in-person learning and your preference as to Cohort A (Monday/Tuesday) or Cohort B (Thursday/Friday).


Please select your option by completing our online form by Monday, April 19, 2021. The option you select for your student(s) is for the remainder of the school year.


The form is available on our website and can be accessed by https://www.nlmusd.online/copy-of-spcf-home.

To prepare for the transition to hybrid instruction, we will have Minimum Days Thursday & Friday this week: classes are 20 minutes long. School begins at 9am, all classes are over at 10:35am.

Spotlight on Learning: Media Arts

In Media Arts students created Pop Art Portraits inspired by the artist and designer, Roy Lichtenstein. Students used Adobe Draw to create their designs. You can learn more about Roy Lichtenstein here: https://lichtensteinfoundation.org/biographyold/

Yearbooks on Sale!

Yearbooks are just $20 this year and can be purchased online or by paying in the school office.

What's up this week?

After School Tutoring

Virtual tutoring is available Monday-Thursday from 3-4:30. The updated Tutoring schedule is linked here. Students can also contact their teachers for questions, clarification, and additional support by appointment during office hours from 2-3pm Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri.

Wednesday is Period 7B 9am-10am.

Log into your period 7B Zoom from 9-10, then work on homework, projects, reading, other asynchronous work.

Thursday & Friday Minimum Days!

To prepare for hybrid in-person instruction, Thursday and Friday will be minimum days. All classes are 20 minutes long.

1A/5B 9am-9:20
2A/6B 9:25-9:45
3A/7B 9:50-10:10
4A/8B 10:15-10:35

Beginning April 26, the daily schedule will change.

Art/Cartooning Students

Beginning Monday 4/26, all Art and Cartooning students participating in hybrid in-person instruction must bring their sketchbooks and art supplies with them to school in a ziplock bag.

Registration for next year will begin on May 7th.

Keep a look out for an email with your snapcode as ALL students (yes, continuing and returning students, too) must be registered online for the upcoming school year

Have an 8th grader? You'll want to mark your calendar for the "Surviving High School" webinar with Mr. Webster on Tuesday, May 4th at 6pm.

Meet our new Intervention Counselor!

Ms. Melissa Chavez is Benton's newest team member. Ms. Chavez has spent the past two years with NLMUSD working at both the high school and middle school levels. As the Intervention Counselor, she will meet with students who are struggling academically and need additional support. Please join me in welcoming her.

Clubs, Clubs, Clubs!

Chess Club ~ Tuesdays 2:30-3:15pm

For all the information on the Chess Club, join the Benton Chess Club GROUP in Schoology, Access Code WB3D-QF5R-ZS2Z9. Links for Zoom, as well as a parent permission form, are in the “Resources” folder. See you on Tuesday at 2:30.


Beginning 4/27, Chess Club will meet from 3:00-3:30pm.

Beginning 4/28, Bible Club will meet from 11:40am-12 noon.

Join the Benton Dance Club!

Dance Instructor Miss Toni will be offering dance instruction Monday-Thursday from 2:30 to 3:30 via zoom. We know many students' regular activities have been cancelled in this time of COVID-19 and the school wanted to offer some additional recreation to students in the afternoon. All students are welcome to join and it is completely free for the students. If you are interested in joining the Benton Dance Club, please use this link.


Beginning 4/26, DanceClub will meet from 2:40-3:30pm.

Join The Diversity Club!

It's not too late to join! We welcome all and it's a fun way for students to connect and learn about diverse others. The Diversity Club meets on Tuesdays at 3pm.

Register for La Mirada HS Cheer Try Outs

Are you an 8th grader and interested in trying out for Cheer at La Mirada HS? Complete the registration form at this link to find out more and try out for the 21-22 LMHS Cheer Team.

La Mirada HS Color Guard

The LMHS Color Guard is one of the most award-winning teams on campus. They’ve received first place at every competition in over a year both in Marching Band and Winter Guard, and are the reigning WGASC High School “A” champions. 8th graders can join on Mondays and Wednesdays 2-4pm on zoom. To qualify for Color Guard, students must have minimum 2.5 GPA and good attendance for their classes. Register here to join.
