Southside Parent Night

When: Tuesday, March 3, 2015

Time: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

What: Games, Crafts, Food, Book Fair and Fun!

Come join us for a fun-filled night of learning and excitement! You never know Mr. Willy Wonka may be in attendance!


Due to unfortunate circumstances regarding the weather, we are going to POSTPONE the 3rd grade program scheduled for Tuesday, March 3rd. The students have not had a chance to come consistently to music class and I want your children to have a successful and confident performance! In order to make sure all children will enjoy themselves and their performance we are moving the program to a future date in May. I apologize to all for the extreme inconvenience but I truly believe your children will benefit from the extra rehearsal time. The annual Parent Night will still be held on Tuesday, March 3rd from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

Parent/ Teacher Conferences are March 17th and 19th. 2:30 dismissal on both days and conferences will be held from 3:30 to 7:00 p.m.

School will be in session on Friday, March 20th. (Snow day)

Reading Schedule

Week Four

Monday, February 23rd – Chapters 25 +26
Tuesday, February 24th – Chapter 27
Wednesday, February 25th – Chapter 28
Thursday, February 26th – Chapter 29
Friday, February 27th – Chapter 30

School Wide Activities the students will have an opportunity to participate in:

  • Daily trivia questions over intercom & during lunch
  • "Golden Behavior Tickets" (Staff will hand out "golden tickets" when they catch students being Gotcha being good! Students will write their name on the back of the ticket & put it in the "Golden Behavior Box" during lunch. Tickets will be drawn weekly and students will receive prizes)
  • Daily Lunchroom Activities...ex: Name that Character, Set purpose for reading next Chapter, Character Traits using our Character Words, Activities to encourage & reward active reading & listening.
  • Our culminating activity will be our Literacy Night...March 3rd! (MARK YOUR CALENDARS)

Reading aloud at home is valuable. It better prepares students to be effective readers, but it is also a fun, worthwhile family activity. Through the One School, One Book program, our goal is to build a community of readers at Southside. Everyone - students, parents, teachers, even support staff - will be reading the book and participating in the activities.

Cabot Classroom Teacher Association (CTA) has once again teamed up with Centennial Bank in Cabot to honor our district’s most outstanding educators.

The CTA is recognizing the great work of some of our best and brightest teachers with the annual “Cabot CTA Teachers with Heart Award.” Based on nominations from parents, colleagues, principals, students, and members of the public, three outstanding Cabot teachers will be recognized and awarded $250.00 in May.

Nominations will be accepted from January 15, 2015 to March 2, 2015.

If you would like to nominate a teacher for this award, you can download the nomination form for the Cabot website.

Nominations can be dropped off at any school location in a sealed envelope or mailed to:

If you have an iPhone, to get started visit the App Store and search for Cabot Public Schools or Cabot School District. Once you find it, just click on it to download the app to your phone.

If you have an Android phone, you’ll go to Google Play, and again either search Cabot Public Schools or Cabot School District and download it to your phone.

Once it’s downloaded, you’ll want to explore all the features available. It’s a great place to stay connected.

We have great news! We will begin the incentive program here at Southside again this year! It was proven success last year at Southside and we want to continue for students and parents to turn trash into cash! The cash for the Box Tops program helps with many things including new technology for Southside. We hope you will help us meet our Box Top goal this year!

Each Box Top is worth 1 point. Points will be updated weekly. You can check your class progress on the front wall! Prizes will be:

500 points= Popcorn Party

1,000 points= Popsicles

1,500 points= Ice Cream

2,000 points= Snow Cones

3,000= Pizza Party

Remember you will be working as a class! Your teacher will also get some cool incentives when the students do!
