Dear Parents...
I hope you like the new look at the monthly Bogert Bulletin! I'm hopeful that the new on-line format makes it easier for view people to view from their mobile devices. That reminds me... if you haven't already, please take one minute to complete the communication survey I recently sent home. Your feedback is invaluable and will help me ensure that we are doing all we can to make the school-home communication efficient and effective. A link to the survey is here: https://goo.gl/forms/4Kia9A5ZWA07Om0l2
Please join me in welcoming Ms. Alana Capogrosso to the Bogert library! Ms. Copograsso was a leave replacement in Reynolds this year and will be joining the Bogert staff in January while Ms. Spirko is on maternity leave. Ms. Spirko's son, Nathan Edward, was born on December 15!
Finally, I would like to wish everyone a very happy holiday season and 2018 that is full of great memories with family and friends.
Sincerely,
Mr. Kaplan
Thank you, USREF!
I would like to thank the USR Educational Foundation for generously funding another round of grants for the teachers. It is with much appreciation and excitement that I share with you that the USREF was able to fund eight grants at Bogert, all of which will directly enhance the learning experiences of the students. Every single child in Bogert will be the beneficiary of at least one grant this year! Thank you very much, USREF!!
The Need For Seed
Thank you!
Bogert's Annual Spelling Bee!
We are looking forward to our 2nd annual Bogert Spelling Bee! Classroom Spelling Bees will take place school-wide on January 30th. One student from each class will advance to the semi-finals of our School Wide Bogert Spelling Bee on Monday, February 5th at 1:30. The finals will take place on February 8th at 8:30 am where we will crown our Bogert School Champion. The champion will represent Bogert School at the Regional Scripps Spelling Bee on March 15th at Bergen Community College. Teachers will be sharing grade-specific word lists the first week in January. If anyone would like to get a head start on their studying, complete word lists can be found on spellingbee.com or on Mrs. Caravela's website. Good luck!
Week of Code
During Bogert’s 2017 “Week of Code,” students in all grades experienced computer coding first hand. They learned what coding was and how it’s a part of their daily lives. In addition, students took part in various age-appropriate coding activities. Pictured here are two students in Mrs. Andersen's 4th grade class.
Character Education News from Ms. Senger
This school year has already been filled with many exciting character education initiatives! In October we celebrated The Week of Respect, Red Ribbon Week, and School Violence Awareness Week. During these special weeks I had the opportunity to teach classroom lessons that encouraged students to become upstanders for both themselves and each other. We partnered with our Reynolds neighbors to celebrate Book Buddies and are excited to see them again in February! We also honored the USR police officers with a recognition ceremony and personalized cards from each student. In December and January, I am excited to revisit the classrooms to talk about empathy and the impact it can have on both our school and wider communities.
Our Caught Being… monthly student recognition program has already received over 100 nomination “paws,” which is a record for Bogert! It’s wonderful to see so many students displaying the Six Pillars of Character (Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, Citizenship) each and every day. Combining our monthly “Character Bobcat” announcement with Tuesday Bluesday has created more excitement and school spirit, and we are eager to see how many more students will be caught this year.
Mrs. DeBoer and I are currently in our third year of running our Buddy Up club. Our enrollment has increased tremendously, with nearly 90 students actively participating! Many of our former new students have returned to become Buddies, which makes our current new students feel even more welcome. As we begin the new year, we will continue to encourage our buddies to ensure that other students are included during lunch and recess. Thank you to the generous support from the Youth Guidance Council.
Buddy Up is excited to sponsor and celebrate The Great Kindness Challenge one again. The campaign is celebrated by well over 10 million students and 15 thousand schools. Last year we completed thousands of acts of kindness in Bogert and we are confident that we can complete even more this year! More details will be provided in the coming weeks.
