Model UN Training at FIU in Miami

Florida International University’s Model United Nations Program invites you to FIU on Saturday, November 21 for our first annual South Florida MUN Best Practices Seminar! Model UN continues to grow in popularity providing an engaging academic experience for students. A broader knowledge of an increasingly interconnected world and valuable skills such as research, public speaking, legislative writing, parliamentary procedure and team work are all practiced and sharpened through Model UN participation. During the one day seminar teachers and students can expect to:
- Receive training on parliamentary procedure, research and Model UN “do’s and don’ts”
- Be trained on and get practice participating in a Model UN “Crisis Committee”
- Learn best practices for operating a Model UN Team, including structuring the program, running meetings and practices, and teaching skills that translate to awards and personal development
- Get first hand experiences from FIU students and faculty on challenges and triumphs
10 AM – 12:30 PM: Model UN: What, Why and How?
FIU students will teach high-school and middle schoolers everything from how to organize a club to how to strategize for a committee.
FIU Model UN Program Director Ethan Roberts will lead a seminar for Teachers on how to facilitate a student organization and provide tips and advice for instructing Model UN to students.
12:30 – 1:30 PM: Joint Lunch Break
Students and teachers reconvene for a free lunch provided by FIU and discuss earlier programing
1:30 – 3:30 PM
Students participate in a mini crisis simulation, practicing note writing, directive writing and public speaking. Teachers are encouraged to observe or participate.
