Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Learning Journey
I would like to thank our families for popping into school yesterday afternoon to check children’s work and celebrate with them, their journey of learning over the past semester. You are no doubt looking forward to your child/ren’s formal reports which will be accessible from Thursday. Best wishes and we hope you enjoy discussing achievements and possible future goals as a family.
Pre-Primary – Year 2 Dance Showcase
Our very talented and enthusiastic little dancers in PP - Year Two did an amazing job in entertaining the audience during their Dance Showcase last Thursday afternoon. When asking a few children what I should write about them, they thought ‘SPECTACULAR’ would fit the bill! Thank you to Mrs D’Adamo for teaching the children and helping them learn their routines and give them the confidence to dance in front of a large audience.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sunday 7 July 2019
This year’s theme is ‘Peace to this house and all who dwell within’. As a community, this is the perfect opportunity for each of us to reflect and make time to look for inner peace in our busy lives and celebrate with our families, friends and the wider community God’s message of peace and love for all.
As we come to the end of a very busy term, I take this opportunity of thanking you for your continued support and wishing you and you children a wonderfully relaxing and enjoyable time together.
Many blessings
Tamara McGougan
Principal

REPORTS ISSUED TOMORROW - Do you have your log-in details?
It is important that you please check your log in for SEQTA Engage as early as possible so that you will be able to access your child's report tomorrow. To connect to SEQTA Engage, please go to https://whitfordcatholicps.coneqt-p.cathednet.wa.edu.au/
If you have any issues please contact the front office - admin@wcps.wa.edu.au or 9404 4200.
Semester One Reports
Reports are once again paperless in 2019. They will be uploaded to SEQTA Engage tomorrow. Your child’s report will also have a page outlining how to understand the information provided. Please take the time to read this and familiarise yourself with the 5-point grading/achievement scale which has been set by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority and Catholic Education in Western Australia.
The expected standard for each year is described as 'C'. Some students will have progressed beyond the achievement standard; others will need additional support. Many students will be given the same grade in Semester One and Semester Two, even though their teachers will have observed growth in learning. Bearing in mind that the work in Semester Two builds on Semester One, maintaining a grade indicates students have held their own in the face of more advanced material and in this way have grown in their learning. If you need to see the class teacher regarding your child’s report, please make an appointment.
Take the time to celebrate your child's achievements; recognising all of their amazing talents! Each and everyone of our students have demonstrated the ability to learn and shown perseverance in their quest to attain individual goals.
Well done everyone and enjoy the well deserved school break.

Bishop's Religious Literacy Assessment – Years 3 and 5
At the request of the Western Australian Bishops, Year 3, Year 5 and Year 9 students in Catholic schools across Western Australia will take part in The Bishops' Religious Literacy Assessment (BRLA). This one assessment will be completed online.
The Bishops' Religious Literacy Assessment is a standardised assessment that is developed and marked by the Office of Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA). The purpose of the BRLA is to measure student learning of the content in the RE curriculum. The BRLA provides a ‘point in time’ snapshot of student performance in RE. Students’ knowledge and understanding of the content of the RE curriculum is assessed using a combination of multiple choice, and short and extended response items. Students’ faith is not assessed. The use of the BRLA complements the school-based assessment programs in RE. Formal school and student reports are produced by the Office and will become available to schools in Term Four.
The testing dates will be in Term 3, Week 3:
Year 5 - Wednesday, 7 August
Year 3 - Thursday, 8 August
If you have any queries please see myself, or the classroom teacher.

Mater Dei Band Visit
The whole school were treated to an energetic performance by the very impressive Mater Dei Band and Choir yesterday. The students were excited listening to the tunes from Little Mermaid, The Lion King and best of all, Spongebob Squarepants. We look forward to the band visiting us again next year.

Interschool Cross Country Result
Well done to all students involved in the Interschool Cross Country held at Mawson Park last week. After a tough start to the event, and with some fantastic individual performances, we were able to finish in 5th place overall out of the 12 schools in A Division. A huge thank you to all who have assisted with training, and in particular to Ian Plummer, Nicole Woods, Troy Creyk and Miss Tarnica Golisano.
We now look forward to the SSWA Regional Champion Schools Cross Country being held on Friday 9th August at McGillivray Oval. The team is in training and all info on sessions will be posted on school stream. All students involved in the Interschool Cross Country from Years 4-6 (including reserves) are welcome to attend the sessions.
