Did you know the word Nowruz means new day; its spelling and pronunciation may vary by country? Nowruz marks the first day of spring and is celebrated on the day of the astronomical vernal equinox, which usually occurs on 21 March. It is celebrated as the beginning of the new year by more than 300 million people all around the world and has been celebrated for over 3,000 years in the Balkans, the Black Sea Basin, the Caucasus, Central Asia, the Middle East, and other regions.
Did you know that today is World Down Syndrome Day? Why specifically 3/21? The date is synonymous with the "3rd copy of the 21st chromosome" which makes individuals with Ds unique! Obviously, WDSD is used to open the conversation about Ds and bring awareness to those who may know little about the most common genetic disorder.

Related Arts Color Day Rotation Survey
HCPSS is seeking feedback on the elementary related arts color rotation schedule. The color rotation schedule was implemented to mitigate loss of instructional time due to school closures for related arts classes scheduled on Mondays and Fridays, sometimes up to nine classes per school year. This feedback will be utilized in conjunction with additional stakeholder input to determine the 22-23 related arts schedule model. This feedback will go directly to HCPSS, not FES and should be completed by March 25, 2022

Please share the survey with your staff and families.
From Our Belonging Team...
Did you know that Holi is a major festival in the Hindu religion? It is celebrated on the day after the last full moon of the Hindu month of Phalguna. Phalguna falls between late February and early March in Western calendars. Holi usually marks the happy transition from harsh, dark winter to brighter, warmer springtime. Bonfires remain a part of Holi rituals today. However, the most striking aspect of the festival is the spraying of brightly colored powders and water in enormous public celebrations. The colors mark both Prahlada's flickering bonfire and the bright colors associated with spring. The "Festival of Colors" is also a time for Hindus to relax social codes. Barriers between rich and poor, men and women, young and old are broken down by Holi's bright colors. A familiar saying is bura na mano, Holi hai—don't be offended, it's Holi!

Did you know the Jewish holiday of Purim celebrates a time in the 4th century BCE when Jewish people in Shushan, Persia, were saved from a cruel fate by the bravery of a woman named Esther? Purim takes place annually on the 14th day of the Hebrew month of Adar, which this year begins at sundown on March 16 and ends at nightfall on March 17. In the Purim story, Queen Esther disclosed the evil plot of Haman, the King’s advisor, to her husband the King. Her courage ensured this plot was foiled and Jewish communities around the world continue to celebrate this victory.
