Hi Hansen Students, Parents, and Families!

We have had a busy and exciting week at the Hansen! First, congratulations to all of our 5th grade student cast and crew for two wonderful performances in 'The Little Mermaid Jr.' this past weekend! It was so awesome to see the amazing talent and the culmination of months of hard work and preparation come together...truly awesome!

This week, our Grade 3 students also enjoyed a field trip to Plimoth Patuxet, their very first opportunity to participate in an out-of-school trip during their elementary careers! By all accounts, students had a great time, and thank you to the staff and family volunteers for supporting this learning opportunity for our third graders!

Please enjoy some of this weeks' Hansen highlights through the pictures below...

Creating A Culture of Achievement, Equity, Inspiration, and Joy!

Fire Drill Today

Earlier today, the Hansen School practiced a scheduled fire drill in collaboration with the Canton Fire Department. Students and staff did a great job, and the entire drill lasted about four minutes.

Upcoming MCAS Schedule

Next week is our last week of scheduled MCAS testing, with our Grade 5 students participating in two sessions of Science (one on Monday and one on Thursday). In addition, we will offer make-up opportunities next week and the week after for any student that previously missed a session. We are almost there!

As a continued reminder, here are the remaining dates for MCAS testing (Grades 3 - 5 only)...

2022 - 2023 Hansen School Hours

As a reminder, next year, the Hansen transitions to the 'late elementary school', and our start and end times will be a half hour later than they are currently. We will keep these hours for the next two school years.

Next year, student drop off will begin at 8:50, with classes starting at 9:10 a.m. Student dismissal will be 3:25 p.m.

CAPE's Honor Thy Teacher Campaign

Honor Thy Teacher

A donation to CAPE's Honor Thy Teacher program is a wonderful way to recognize a specific teacher, staff person or administrator who has helped make a student's school year brighter. All donations support CAPE grants.

There are so many people in our schools who have a positive impact on our children every day. We are happy to honor them!

Visit CAPE to learn more or make a donation.

PACE Screenings For Grade 2 Students

The annual PACE screenings will be taking place in late May/early June. In previous years, paper notices were sent out to families who wished to have their children screened for the program. This year we have moved to a digital version and all screening requests (and accompanying forms) will be sent out electronically.

Any Grade 2 family that would like to have their child participate in a PACE screening should request this through this link. Requests should be completed by May 26.

Thank you, and if you have any questions about PACE or the screening process, please direct your questions to Dr. Gruberman (grubermanr@cantonma.org).

REMINDER: The Spring STAR Window Is Now Open

We have been using the STAR 360 Benchmark Assessments this year as our universal screener. This assessment is designed to help us identify students who may need additional support and/or intervention in reading and math.

The Spring STAR window is currently open and runs from May 9 - May 27. Students will need to bring their school issued ipad or chromebook to school on days that they are testing. These specific testing days will be shared by teachers. Parent Reports will be sent home in June.

More information about STAR Assessment is available on the Renaissance parent page.

Students Not Returning For 2022-2023

If your family is relocating or otherwise planning not to return to the Hansen next school year, it would be helpful for our office to know as soon as you are able to share. This is not necessary for any students that are transitioning to 6th grade. Please reach out to Mrs. Cavanagh (cavanaghb@cantonma.org) or Mrs. Lopilato (lopilatoj@cantonma.org) with any information or questions. Thank you!

REMINDER: Bus Registration for 2022-23 is Open!

Registration for bus transportation is now open for the 2022 - 2023 school year! Families should have received emails with a link to register, and anyone that did not is encouraged to reach out to our transportation coordinator, Mrs. Brett McCloud (mccloudb@cantonma.org).

Registration will remain open until May 20.

REMINDER: Canton Art Show is Back!

After two years on hiatus because of Covid protocols, I am excited to share that we are able to host our annual spring art show once again in the CHS gymnasium. As always, the show will include artwork from every art student in the district, PreK-12. The show will be open for students and their families to visit from 6-8pm on Monday, May 23 - Thursday, May 26.

Each evening we will be hosting open studio activities for all ages in the CHS art rooms. This year's show will also feature a silent auction of artwork with proceeds benefiting the work that Doctors without Borders is doing to help Ukrainian refugees. All are welcome!
