WGHS Top Ten for Class of 2020 is Announced

Music Students are Selected for All-County Concerts: Elementary
Students are responsible for learning the music in advance and rehearsing on Friday and Saturday before the concert is held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday. Congratulations!
Young WGMS Scientists Showcase their Projects
This year’s fair had 59 students who created 34 projects. Student projects were entered in the following categories: Human Sensory Perception, Psychology, Health and Consumer Studies, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Physics, and Engineering.
Students are Scientific at CMS Fair
This year 19 students created 13 exhibits that were entered for judging in the Camillus Middle School Science Fair on February 13. Science teacher Jacqueline Mills coordinated the fair.
A variety of projects representing multiple branches of science were on display. Projects were judged based on experimental design, oral presentation, and the overall look of the display board.
Tax Exemptions for Residents-Deadline by March 1
Residents who are age 65 and/or who are disabled may be eligible for a partial exemption on their school property taxes if they meet certain qualifications.
At the regular meeting on January 22, 2020, the Board of Education reviewed the maximum income eligibility ranges for exemptions that have been approved by New York State. Exemptions ranging from 5% to 50% of qualified applicants assessments are available on income levels of $37,400 or less.
Also available to District residents is a tax exemption for volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers, approved by the Board of Education on January 22, 2020. To qualify for this exemption, applicants must reside in the District served by the fire department or ambulance service, the property must be the primary residence of the member, and only the residential portion of the property may receive the exemption. The exemption is equal to 10% of the property’s assessed value, not to exceed a $3,000 assessment reduction.
Finally, on January 22, 2020, the Board of Education approved the continuation of the tax exemption for Veterans.

Mark your Calendar for the West Genesee 12th Annual Culture Fair
The 12th annual Culture Fair will be held at West Genesee High School on Saturday, February 29 from 12:00-3:00 p.m in the upper gymnasium.
Join us as we celebrate our community’s diversity at this fun event featuring dance performances, live music, cultural demonstrations, food samples, artwork, T-shirts, kids crafts, and more!

Food Pantry Information for Over the Break
Many students enjoy breakfast and lunch in our cafeterias on a regular basis. It is understandable when families find it challenging to provide those meals during school vacations.
Food pantries partner with the Food Bank of CNY to provide low cost, nutritious food to those in need. The following is a list of food pantries and services available in our community to assist families. Please know that you will be serviced by the food pantry nearest your legal address. If you have questions or need assistance please call: The Interreligious Food Consortium (IRC) weekdays at 315-474-8855 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Their website is: http://www.ifccny.org/.

Spring Sports Registration Starts Soon!
The Athletics Department offers the convenience of online registration for athletic sports sign up and clearance through Family ID.
- JV/Varsity Spring Sports-Starts 3/16/20; Registration Opens 2/16/20
- Modified 7/8/9 Spring Sports-Starts 3/30/20; Registration Opens 3/1/20
- Unified Basketball starts 4/14/20; Registration starts 3/14/20
- All 7th & 8th grade students should register under the school they attend.
- All 9th-12th grade students should register under West Genesee High School.

Kindergarten Registration Continues through March 31, 2020
Kindergarten Registration for the 2020-2021 school year began on December 3, 2019 and will go until March 31, 2020 at the Central Registrar Office located at 300 Sanderson Drive, Camillus, NY 13031.
