2024: Strategies That Change Kids
Struggling Readers; K-2 Writers; Tested SEs; Summer Peek
Dear Colleagues,
- 😀The RLA learning opportunities this semester are designed for All students. Invite your special education and intervention colleagues.
- 💫Additionally, I need re-focus our attention on central idea. See my pdf from my Striking It Rich trainings! If you came, great. If you did not, please read. We all need to truly understand central idea, key idea, theme and message. Main idea is not in the standards. Learn what is and how to define each tested SE.
- 💫 Check out the summer sneak peek. Yes, Carlin Liborio will be here June 4!
- 😀If you would like me to join you on campus, reach out. I've been in several districts, and I love working with your students.
Sincerely, Donna Scherr, your K-5 Reading/Language Arts Consultant & LETRS® Site Trainer🌷

✨ Linking All K-2 Writers to 3rd Grade STAAR Feb. 1 & 5✨DATE Change!
Join Donna Scherr for a specially crafted writing series just for you, my K-2 Colleagues and K-5 Interventionists.
🎌 Participants must attend each session in order.
The series is in its third year. It's that important, and teachers love it!😀
✔️Best practice: Attend any Day One. Then Attend Days Two and Three when you can.
- Day One: February 1: Focus on Sentences! DATE and Time Change! Time is 9:00-4:00.
- Day Two: February 5 on Paragraphs, if you have attended any Day One Session.
- If these dates do not work, let me share on campus!.
- Full 3-Day Series will launch this Summer with Day Three: Revision and Read-Aloud Rigor!
- Day Three will be open to anyone, so that you get a sneak peek of Days One & Two!
🎓Why a Structured Literacy Approach Matters🎓
A fellow Region 14 special education K-5 interventionist shared with colleagues last year at a workshop that the sentence activities she learned on Day One of Linking All K-2 Writers to 3rd Grade STAAR were so good that her non-writer upper intermediate student is now a writer.
That was only because of Day One. She cannot wait for Day Two on paragraphs, which is February 5.
Come find out! Feb. 7-8 at Literacy for ALL: RLA strategies for working with regular & struggling learnerss
- Learn how to help students in Tier I, Tier II, Tier III and in special education.
- That means all students: general education, ELs, special education, and students identified with dyslexia and other learning disabilities.
- Sound too good to be true? Come find out.
- We'll learn along with educators across the state virtually how to help all students who are still struggling to access print.
Feb. 7-8 It is a two-day training, but you will receive documents that illuminate terms often used in special education such as processing speed, and more importantly, how to help these students with targeted strategies! Don't miss!
💫All STAAR RLA Review, 3-5 March 5💫
🏀March Madness will be upon us soon...🏀
- What to do in a ten-day review? Have fun, compete and play games? Yes!
- Same strategies? Same concepts but with a twist. You've got to score every time you shoot.
- 🏀CAVEAT: If you attended last year's RLA Review, you know the tournament.
- If you attend any of my Striking it Rich trainings this fall at Region 14 or onsite, you received a lot of different strategies. You probably feel really confident.
🏀However, if you have never been and would like more ideas on how to review
the essentials in 10 days and still have fun... JOIN! 🏀
