Otsego Elementary Extra

COVID-19 Edition #4 - May 14, 2020

From the Desk of Katrina Baughman

As we are nearing the end of the school year, I wanted to share some mental health resources for parents and students. Also, if you have not seen the No Recess video yet (included below), please take a few minutes to check it out.

We know these times have been hard on all of us, adults and kids. We are so thankful for everyone involved: teachers, students, parents, support staff and everyone else!

Here are a few reminders:

Thursday, May 21st – This is the last day of new assignments. Friday, May 22nd will be to catch up and finalize all your assignments.

May 26 through 28th will also be a time to finalize assignments and get everything done. This week will also be Wellness Week. As a district, we care about each and every one of our community members’ health and wellness, therefore we have decided to have a little fun for our final week so that we can have a jumpstart to a happy and healthy summer! We will get more information out next week with more detail.

May 27th Parade on Otsego’s Campus – We are so proud of our students, parents, and community members during this trying and unprecedented time! We had such a wonderful outpouring of support at our first parade, we decided to hold another one! This one will be a little bit different. We will hold a reverse parade. The Otsego teachers and staff members will be lined up (distantly of course!) through the parking lot at the school. Students, families, and community members are welcome to drive through the path on Wednesday, May 27th from 6 to 7pm. You are welcome to make signs, wave pom-poms, or just yell out your support. We would like this to be a time to celebrate all the hard work our students have put in and a way to kick off summer! More details will be given out as the date gets closer, but we just wanted to give everyone something to look forward to! We hope you can join us! GO KNIGHTS!

E-book and Companion Coloring Book for Young Children in the time of COVID

After many weeks of practicing social distancing, being out of traditional routines, and away from friends and family, it is understandable if you have noticed a change in behaviors. Recently the counseling department has gone through a series of webinars to support students, and their families', from a distance who may be experiencing a change in internalizing and externalizing behaviors. Below we have attached some parent intervention tips for dealing with depression, anxiety, attention problems, and/or academic problems. Take a look at the links below and reach out to your counselors with any concerns. We are here to help. Stay safe, Knights.

Students can help out in the Community too!

If students could send letters or coloring pages to the residents at Grand Rapids Care Center they would LOVE it!

The residents are not able to have visitors at this time which makes it really hard on them because they cannot do anything. Also at this time they have to be in their rooms so it is really hard for them to cope with this. Hearing from our students will definitely brighten their day!

The address is

Grand Rapids Care center 24201 W. 3rd St. Grand Rapids, Ohio 43522

Thank you so much!
