From the Principal
Ranger Patrons,
Welcome, February!
- February is Black History Month, an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and recognition of their central role in U.S. history. Raymond Park will provide daily acknowledgements of these contributions schoolwide, and students will have opportunities to engage in related activities in classrooms throughout the month.
- The first week in February is National School Counselor's week. This week is a celebration of the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. Raymond Park is grateful to have counselors Adrienne Mathews (5th grade), Andrew McAulay (6th grade), Katie Piatt, (7th grade) and Iris Parrish (8th grade) to help guide our students through their adolescent years in school with an eye on high school and beyond. Contact information for each is provided at the bottom of this newsletter.
RP will continue with the following schedule this week:
- 5th grade in-person learners will continue with daily, in-person learning this week.
- 6th-8th grade students that were selected for in-person learning hubs will report on Tuesdays or Thursdays, 9am-12pm or 1:30pm.
- 6th-8th grade students that are interested in walk-in tutoring on Tuesdays and Thursdays should report to the cafeteria through entrance #1 between 4pm and 5pm. A 5pm activity bus is available to transport tutoring students home.
School Choice Opportunities Adjustment for Second Semester: The window for learning option change for 6th-8th grade students has closed. Students requesting either a return to virtual or in-person hybrid will begin Wednesday, February 17 (Monday of that week is President's Day and Tuesday is scheduled to be an eLearning day). This placement will carry for the remainder of the school year.
Learning Hubs are intentional, scheduled opportunities for students to receive reteach and support. There are three types of learning hubs that will occur on application days for 6th-8th grade students (Tuesday and Thursday) for the next 3 school weeks:
1. In-Person Learning Hubs will be scheduled 9:00 am-12:00 or 1:30pm. The are invitation-only opportunities for students to receive in-person reteach and support at Raymond Park. Students are selected for this opportunity based on conditional growth measures on the latest NWEA assessment as well as observed virtual learning struggles. Selected students and families will be invited directly by their grade level administrator with teachers providing follow-up communication.
2. Virtual Learning Hubs are scheduled to occur between 2:30 and 4:00pm on Tuesday and Thursday application days and will occur via Zoom virtual conferencing. This timeframe will consist of both private tutoring time with invitations coming via email to students and general office hours where teachers are available for all students to enter the virtual classroom. Teacher-specific times and links will be provided on class Canvas pages. Please contact individual teachers, grade level administrators or grade level counselors to request virtual learning hub tutoring opportunities.
3. After School Learning Hubs are available for all students on Tuesday and Thursday application days between 4:00 and 5:00pm (revised from 5:30pm). This is a walk-in opportunity for students to receive tutoring and support in language arts and math in the Raymond Park cafeteria. Students must provide their own transportation to school for an afterschool learning hub, but are welcome to ride the 5:00pm activity bus home afterward. Participating students should enter at door 1 and proceed to the cafeteria for tutoring (face masks are required).
Term 3 Material Pick-Up. Since we have started a new semester, students and families will need to pick up new materials for their classes. Materials can be retrieved in the RP office between 8:30am and 4pm daily. We ask that 1 representative per family that can pass the Covid-19 screening protocols visit the RP office to retrieve materials.
MSD Warren Continues Food Distribution. Continuing the week of January 25, food distributions will occur Tuesdays and Fridays from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at Moorhead Community Resource Center, Warren Central High School, and Raymond Park IMS.
Technology Support. School-issued Chromebooks or iPads that are malfunctioning or damaged may be brought to the RP main office for exchanged during regular business hours, weekdays 8:30am-4pm. The Moorhead Community Resource Center Technology Helpdesk hours have been reduced to 11am-1pm daily.
Safety. RP will continue to follow the SAFE Reopening Plan to better ensure everyone's safety during the pandemic. Students are reminded that face masks and social distancing are required. Frequent handwashing and sanitizing will also be scheduled into the daily schedule. Recent updates from health officials discourage the use of face shields as a replacement for face masks. All MSD of Warren Township staff and students should wear face masks unless an extenuating circumstance exists and a face shield is needed. School administrators may approve the use of a face shield in these cases.
Students should not attend school if they are close contacts to a positive Covid case, are awaiting results of a Covid test or exhibit two or more of the following: ● A fever of 100.0° F or greater ● Cough ● Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing ● Sore throat ● Fatigue ● Chills ● Muscle or body aches ● Headache ● Congestion or runny nose ● Nausea or vomiting ● Diarrhea ● New loss of taste or smell.
Upcoming Dates of Note:
- Week of FEBRUARY 8 = Midterm Grade Window closes. Students must have assignments submitted for consideration by 4pm.
- MONDAY, FEBRUARY 15 = No School (Presidents' Day)
- TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 16 = District eLearning Day (ALL STUDENTS access learning materials virtually from home)
- WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 17 = Hybrid/In Person students in grades 6-8 return to school
Caregiver Input Opportunity. The district has opened an Equity and Inclusion Survey for K-12 staff, parents/caregivers, and 9-12 students. This information will allow us to identify our strengths and our areas for growth in creating a school district that provides equitable opportunities and achieves equitable outcomes for all students.
The complexity of school circumstances requires communication that is timely and accurate. Please don't hesitate to reach out through email reply to this newsletter or through grade level administrators and counselor contacts provided at the bottom of this newsletter with questions or concerns - we are here to serve and support you and your students in their education endeavors!
Proud to be a Ranger,
John Kleine
