HAS Weekly Update
November 8, 2023
This week we had two wonderful events. On Monday our elementary students participated in Full Value Families. The event started with a presentation about Full Value and a short video about spreading kindness. Then the students broke up into their Full Value Families and the 8th grade PEER leaders led the students through two activities. Click here for pictures of the event.
This morning, we hosted a Clap In for Veterans. We had 5 Veterans visit HAS and the students paid tribute to their service by lining the hallways and cheering on the Veterans as they walked through the school.
Have a wonderful long weekend!

Communication with your Child during school hours
Parental communications with their child should take place only when there is a family emergency and via the main office or guidance phone numbers, NOT via cell phone. Parents are asked to refrain from sending any text messages during school hours, which is a distraction and disrupts instructional time.
Gym Safety from the Nurse's Corner
In order to ensure students’ safety during Physical Education class, the following guidelines have been established:
-Proper footwear is required. Properly tied sneakers are to be worn for physical education class. Sneakers are designed to allow for easy movement and to protect the feet and ankles from injuries that could occur while participating in vigorous activities.
* No shoes, sandals, flip flops, boots or crocs are allowed.
-Gym excuses can be given up to three (3) days with a parent note. A doctor’s note must be obtained after the third day.
-Any student under a doctor’s care for a medical orthopedic reason cannot return to gym without a doctor’s note.
-A student with a cast, brace, sling or splint will not be allowed to participate in physical education regardless of a doctor note. These devices create the potential for injury to another student.
CRANFORD DISTRICT SEL CALENDAR
Please click on the link below to view our Social Emotional Learning Calendar for the district. The calendar will be updated monthly to reflect Family Academies, awareness months, and school activities which foster student wellness and safety, SEL skills, character education pillars, and Full Value Principles. Thank you for your participation and support.
IMPORTANT ROAD SAFETY REMINDERS
Please be sure to supervise students on the playground after-school.
During the school day and at recess we have many expectations of the students when on the playground to keep them safe (i.e. no throwing wood chips, not running up the slide; not jumping off of high platforms;) and we would love for all students to be safe after school.
Thank you for your cooperation and for keeping our students safe.
Early Pick up
Please make sure you email the attendance office: email@example.com
(copy-paste email address) or call 908-709-6229 or 908-709-6983, if your child has to be signed out early to attend an appointment. This will help us prepare for the pick up and allow us to get your child to you in a timely fashion.
- If you are picking up your child for an appointment please notify the office ahead of time by emailing (HASfirstname.lastname@example.org) or calling 908-709-6229 or 908-709-6983. The nurse may also call to have you pick up your child if they are feeling ill.
- During pick up have your ID ready and ring the main entrance intercom bell. State your name and the reason for your visit then present your ID to the camera.
- You will be buzzed into the vestibule.
- Please wait in the vestibule.
- We will bring your child to you in the vestibule where you will sign them out.
ATTENDANCE AND LATENESS
Punctuality is also a habit HAS strives to expect and support. Middle school students who arrive after 8:10 a.m. are considered tardy. They must obtain a late pass from the office. After the sixth tardy, a student will receive a lunch detention each time they are tardy. Parents/Guardians will be notified if their child has been tardy five or more times. On February 1st tardy counts will reset and the process will begin again.
