RMS Weekly Event Calendar
September 18 - September 22
What's going on this week?
Do you ever think about the students in your classroom....what they like, how they solve problems, how they learn? Of course you do and one thing that you will agree on, is that students are different in today's classroom because of their access to abundant forms of technology.
These students are referred to as the "Net Geners". So how do these students from the "Net Generation" learn and what do they expect from their teachers and schools? These "Net Geners" expect to use computers for their classwork as well as their hobbies. They expect things to work fast and will get bored if they are not adequately challenged. When these students are challenged, they excel in creativity and innovation. The "Net Geners" learn by doing, not by listening to lectures, completing worksheets, or reading an instructional manual. These are the students we must reach in our classrooms. As teachers, you have the power to increase student engagement and motivation through the integration of technology, which has the power to transform teaching and classrooms!
Above you will see the results of the Professional Development Survey that was conducted among the RMS faculty a few weeks ago. The results indicated that many of you want to improve your skills in integrating technology to improve instruction. I am excited to let you know that we are going to be partnering with Technology in Motion this school year and Dr. Barry Wiginton will be working with our school to provide training and support to all of you in using technology to provide engaging learning activities that will improve learning. Our first session will take place on Wednesday and I can't wait to see the learning he has planned for us this year!
I am also excited to let you know that we have ordered some additional Chromebooks so that every teacher will have their own Chromebook! The new Chromebooks should be in within the next few days and as soon as we can get them ready, we will get them out to you. As they say, "If we can't be 'em, join 'em" so we are going to become part of the "Net Generation" group! We hope this will help all of you as we begin this technological journey!
Looking forward to a great week at RMS!
