The character trait to focus on in K-5 is Respect. Our Choose Love movement is moving along and focusing on Love and Hope in September and will continue into October with the focus on Feelings are OK and Growth Mindset.
October is a very busy month. During the month of October we celebrate the Week of Respect and Red Ribbon Week. We have many activities scheduled for these special events that began on October 5th.
Red Ribbon Week is October 23rd-October 30th. Red Ribbon Week is a United States initiative of prevention and education about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. This week we will focus on making healthy and safe choices.

Sparta Middle School
During the Week of Respect SMS encouraged students and staff to participate in Spirit Days. To kick off the Week of Respect, David Flood, a top youth motivational speaker, shared a virtual presentation for all students in grades 6-8 about respect, dignity, and the importance of being kind to one another.
In addition to fun themed days, each day during Red Ribbon Week an announcement will be made on SMS’s Guidance Google Classroom with drug related quotes and facts to steer our students away from drugs!
In addition to Week of Respect and Red Ribbon Week, the counselors at SMS held a meet and greet with all new students in grades 6-8 during their Academic Assistance period so they could meet each other and their school counselors.
Harassment, Intimidation & Bullying (HIB)
Sparta High School
Sparta High School will be doing a "SHS Upstander of the Week" program. The Jets Upstander program is not operating this year, so the high school has created this program!
Staff will nominate students who exemplify the characteristics of being "upstanders" or good SHS citizens to win Upstander of the Week. Students will win a T-Shirt and their picture will be posted on Ms. Monaco's bulletin board near the cafeteria and on the school's social media sites.
