COVID Response Report
This week, all District students and staff will receive two take-home rapid antigen COVID tests. During the Thanksgiving Break, the District encourages everyone to take these tests on Sunday, November 27 or Monday, November 28 prior to returning to campus, and again on Wednesday, November 30, during that first week back.
If students or staff test positive, they are asked to fill out this form and follow the current guidance found here. For additional COVID-related information, please visit the District’s COVID Response Page.
Something to note: Many have asked if they can use FDA-authorized at-home COVID diagnostic tests that have expired. Though the FDA does not recommend using these tests beyond their authorized expiration dates, diagnostic tests may be extended as additional stability data is collected. You can check the Expiration Date column of the List of Authorized At-Home OTC COVID-19 Diagnostic Tests to see if your at-home OTC COVID-19 test has been extended and how to find any new expiration date
Student of the Month
Jefferson High School is proud to present Angelica Martinez, a 12th grade student who has earned unreserved respect and admiration from students and staff alike, as the JUHSD Student of the Month for November.
Angelica has demonstrated perseverance and tenacity as she overcame the odds and competed on the Jefferson High School football team. She showed us all that young ladies should never be held back by gender or societal expectations by playing a sport that has been predominantly played by men.
Entering high school is a scary experience for many students, but Angelica was not phased by the transition and even put herself out there by trying out for the JV Football team as a 9th grade student. Through her passion and hard work, she made the team and thus began her journey in the Grizzly football program. She has continued to make the football team each year and is actually the first female student to play football for four years.
In addition to football, Angelica has also been a leader for our Unity Day program this year. Unity Day, a new program for Jefferson this year, is designed to push students to step out of their comfort zones through activities that challenge them to reflect on stereotypes, beliefs, and actions. Unity Day helps students develop a greater understanding of their classmates and foster awareness of actions which promote unity. Angelica was one of the first students that staff recommended to help lead this new program. Just like football, she jumped right in and has excelled as a leader. She has a warm and welcoming personality and presence that helps other people feel welcome, at ease, and important. She is able to be vulnerable and genuine which sets the stage for all of us to do the same.
Her ambition, determination and dedication has and will continue to pave the road for young girls to never fall into despair nor feel discouraged but hold their head high and continue chasing their dreams and passions. Angelica Martinez has truly been a role model to all current and future Jefferson High School students and the wider public who are able to hear her story. We are definitely a stronger and better community due to her contributions on campus, on the field, and in the classroom. On behalf of the faculty and staff, we are immensely proud of Angelica and forever grateful to her parents for entrusting us to be a part of her journey.
Congratulations, Angelica! JHS and JUHSD are very proud of you!
