Term One Reports Come Home this Week.

On February 20th, you will receive your child's Term 1 Provincial Report Card. The intent of the Provincial Report Card is for the teacher to report students' achievement of curriculum expectations introduced and developed from September to January/February of the school year, as well as students' development of the learning skills and work habits during that period.

Teachers take various considerations into account before making a decision about the grade to be entered on the report card. The teacher will consider all evidence collected through observations, conversations, and student products (e.g., tests/quizzes, performance tasks, assignments for evaluation). Teachers will weigh all evidence of student achievement use their professional judgement to determine the student’s report card grade. The report card grade represents a student’s achievement of overall curriculum expectations, as demonstrated to that point in time.

We encourage you to review the report card with your child and contact his/her teacher to seek clarification as needed. This is an excellent opportunity for families to celebrate successes, encourage a Growth Mindset and set goals for Term 2.

Pink Shirt Day February 27th

Southview staff and students have been highlighting kindness and encouraging our sense of belonging at school throughout the month of February. Our kindness tree is blooming in the front foyer and classes doing a variety of initiatives to support a welcoming and kind atmosphere - in classrooms, on the yard and on the bus. We met together as a whole school at our end of January assembly where the message of "kind thoughts, kind words, kind actions" was highlighted. This is a whole school effort to encourage kindness by all, every month of the school year. On February 27th, we will wear our pink shirts proudly to stand up for kindness. It takes every single person in our Southview community to help make this vision a reality. We can do it!
