Congratulations to Simpson's 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year!

Each year, the staff at each school in Gwinnett County selects one of their colleagues to be their Teacher of the Year. What an honor to be recognized as an exemplary educator by your peers!

Our three wonderful finalists this year are all sparkling jewels at Simpson - Gayle Dingler (Grade 5), Michelle Guy (Grade 4), and Sarah Mazzatta (Special Education).

We are delighted to share with you that Ms. Gayle Dingler is Simpson's 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year! Originally from the Chicago area, Ms. Dingler joined the Simpson staff in 2011 as a fifth grade teacher. She is a graduate of Calvin College in Michigan. We are thrilled to have had her for thirteen years as a Simpson Superstar! Ms. Dingler, along with the other 139 GCPS Teachers of the Year will be recognized at a celebratory banquet in November.

We love you Ms. Dingler!

CogAT Next Week!

Grades 1, 2 and 5 will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings of next week.

The CogAT is a norm-referenced assessment that gives parents and the school an opportunity to see how each student is performing compared to a hypothetical “average” student, based on data collected from students taking the same test in the same grade throughout the nation.

These assessments are not used for grading or promotion; however they help schools

and teachers gain further insight into student learning. The CogAT assesses verbal, quantitative and non-verbal abilities.

No Ice Cream Next Week!

Due to the Cognitive Abilities Test (Grades 1, 2 and 5), we will not sell ice cream next week. Sales resume on Monday, September 16!

Reflections Theme - "Look Within"

Get your creative juices flowing and participate in Reflections this year. The theme is "Look Within."

We encourage ALL superstar students at Simpson to create original works of art. You can choreograph a dance, produce a film, write a literary masterpiece, compose your own music, take amazing photographs, and create visual art. You can create up to three and in more than one category. So, TELL US YOUR STORIES, kids!

Rules and entry forms are available in Simpson Square and on our PTA website.

All entries are judged on three criteria:

(1) Interpretation of Theme,

(2) Creativity, and

(3) Technique.

All entries must be turned in before the 8:50 am bell rings on Thursday, September 19th and Friday, September 20th.

A Random Act of Kindness

Last week, Matthew U. (Ivory-Grade 2) was having trouble falling asleep. He told his mother he had been thinking - he had noticed in PE that some of the foam balls were old and torn. He told her he wanted to have a lemonade stand Labor Day weekend to raise money to replace some equipment in the gym at school. He told his mom his goal was to raise $300.00.

With the amazing (and generous) community of school friends, sports teammates, neighbors, family members and just passers by, Matthew and his excited, hardworking brother Ryan (Barrett-Kdg.) exceeded their goal and raised just over $300 in lemonade sales + donations! Even Ryan's teacher, Ms. Barrett, stopped by!

Matthew and Ryan were excited to share the news with Mr. Halron. ⭐️

Thank you, Matthew and Ryan, for being true Simpson Superstars!

Help Us Help Others!

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month! We have our very own Simpson Superstars who are childhood cancer survivors. We want to help doctors find a cure for cancer!

To help raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer research, we are asking each student to bring in $1 on Friday, September 20 to be able to wear pajamas to school that day. If a student brings $2.00, he/she can also bring a stuffed animal to school!

The money will be donated to CURE, located right here in GA, who raises money for pediatric cancer research.

Thank you for helping us put an end to childhood cancer!
