Summer Reads
Summer is quickly approaching in the Northern Hemisphere and soon AES will be on break for 8 weeks! Check out the Summer 2023 Reading Lists published by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association.

Summer Reading Challenges
Need an extra boost to push the doldrums out of your house over the holiday break? Check out some of these challenges and activities:
- Epic's June Activity Calendar and July Activity Calendar offers daily ideas for boredom busters, these calendars, created by the folks at Epic! reading give quick ideas. Note, some of the activities are US-centric but could be replaced with a similar idea related to another country. (Grades PK - G5)
- Capstone Virtual Summer Camp Adventure offers 6 different choice boards for students to choose activities based around the 'summer camp theme' of the week. Each week's activities have reading, maker, health, coding, STEAM, and technology components. (Grades KG - G8)
- Book vs Movie Night -- Pop some popcorn and challenge your student to a movie night after you've read one of these books together. Then complete this comparison sheet together. (Grade 3 and up)
- Read for 24 hours! Well, maybe not 24 hours straight, but this tracking sheet will challenge your reader to spend 24 hours with a book in-hand this summer. (Grade 1 and up)
- This Summer Reading Gameboard and this Genre Grid are both interactive ways to get your reader looking at books outside of the genres they normally read. (Grades 3 and up)
Book BINGO Challenge 2023
Whether you'll be summering in the northern hemisphere or wintering in the southern hemisphere, challenge yourself with the 2023 Book Bingo Challenge!

Community Library Access
We welcome our community to visit our library during community hours! Come in and see what books or magazines might interest you and/or your children. During school hours, our libraries are open only for students, however we are open to the community:
- Before school
- After school until 5pm
- Saturdays:
- ES Library opens at 8:30a and closes at 12:30p
- MSHS Library opens at 9:00a and closes at 4:00p
As a reminder, all elementary students must be supervised in both libraries by an adult.
Upcoming Events and Dates
- May 20 - Returning AES members may check out items with a due date of Aug. 9
- May 22 ---Overdue items not returned will be marked lost and access to PowerSchool will be lost until the books are returned or paid for.
- June 2 - Last day of school!
- June 8, 15, 22, & 29 - ES and MSHS Libraries are open to the AES community
