NSSD MIDDLE SCHOOL ATHLETICS UPDATE
August 19, 2021
Dear Parents,
I just wanted to take a minute to briefly update you on our plans for fall sports. I remain hopeful that we will be able to compete with a full menu of sports offerings for your middle school student-athletes. As we race towards the start of the school year, I want you to know that we are preparing for football, boys’ and girls’ soccer, volleyball, and cross country!
As we all know, things in our current landscape are ever-changing. It is my goal to make sure that I communicate with all of you regarding how we will operate our athletics program during COVID-19.
Optional Conditioning Practices:
All fall sports will be holding optional conditioning practices on August 30, August 31, and September 2 from 3:30-5:00. Please note that these are optional practices. Teams will not be implementing offenses or determining positions or A/B teams during this time. The purpose of these practices is to allow student-athletes to acclimate to the heat and begin to get their bodies ready for moving and exercising again. These practices will be planned to introduce skills and begin getting student-athletes bodies in shape and ready for exercise. The first day of official practice will be September 8.
Sports Registration:
First, NSSD middle school sports have gone digital! All student-athletes need to register on FamilyID. You can find the links and information below. We will be offering:
Football - Grades 7 and 8. Games are generally on Wednesdays
Boys and Girls Soccer - Grades 7 and 8. Games are generally Mondays and Wednesdays
Volleyball - Grades 7 and 8. Games are generally Mondays and Wednesdays
Cross Country - Grades 6, 7, and 8. Meets depend on the host school
We need every athlete to use Family ID to sign up. This helps our league plan and write schedules. This also helps me plan and hire coaches. Without this information, I will not be able to accurately forecast the number of teams and coaches needed for each individual sport. I can’t stress enough how important this information is as we move forward.
Second, your student-athlete will need a current sports physical. You MUST use the correct physical form. You can access that form below. If you do not know if your child has a current physical, please contact the school. You will also be able to upload the physical into your FamilyID account. This will allow both you and school to access your physical at any time.
COVID Information:
As we get closer to the start of middle school athletics, it is important that we all know and understand what is needed by all of us in order for our student-athletes to compete this year. Here are some things that you need to know and are probably wondering about:
Student-athletes are not required to wear masks (inside or outside) while participating in athletics.
Spectators:
Outdoors -
At this time, masks are not required for spectators during outside events
At this time, there are no “occupancy limits” during outside events
6 Foot Distancing between family groups is expected
Indoors -
At this time, masks are required for all spectators entering indoor facilities
6 foot distancing between family groups is expected
I want to thank you all for your patience as we navigate athletics during a pandemic. I cannot wait to see our gyms and fields full of student-athletes. We are getting so close! I know that as we transition back into athletics, many of you will have questions. Always feel free to contact me using the contact information found below.
Go Vikings!
