Tumbleweed Times Week 2

News from Ranch 25 - September 4, 2015

Slip into your time machine and let it take you back to Friday, September 4th. Now, when you read this newsletter, it will all make sense. (So, sorry about my tardiness!) The Week 3 edition of the newsletter will be out this weekend. Welcome back to September 10th.

First Grade Happenings

We continue to spend time learning the routines of first grade. We are especially enjoying reading the Junie B. Jones, First Grader series by Barbara Park.

In math we practiced counting large groups of items. We discovered that it is more efficient to group items in groups of fives or tens while counting.

We also learned how to use and care for our iPads. All students signed a contract promising to follow all the rules. Ask your child to sing the iPad song for you. (It'll be stuck in your head forever!)

Back to School Night

It was so great to see you all at Back to School Night. If you missed it, papers were sent home with your child. Here are just few reminders:

  • Remind - If you would like to receive text reminders, please sign up by texting 81010 and type @sh25 in the message box. See the flyer below.
  • Volunteers - If you would like to volunteer, we only have openings on Mondays from 8:30-9:10 and Thursdays from 8:30-9:10 to work with students, and anytime on Friday afternoons to do our Friday Folders (takes about 30 minutes.) Please email me if you would like to volunteer.
  • Dismissal - If your child's dismissal routine changes from what you said on the goldenrod sheet filled out the first week of school, please email me or send a note. When in doubt, I will always default to your original plan. Thanks!
  • Shutterfly - Mr. Wei Chen (Derek's dad) has set up a Shutterfly account for our classroom this year. It is our combined hope that parents will use this account to upload and download photos, plan class parties, and to meet other families. If you would like access to this account, please email Wei at: chenwei@alumni.usc.edu. Remember, these photos are for personal use only and cannot be posted to social media.
