Dear Hornet Nation,
Thank you for all your hard work these past few weeks as we have transitioned to a new hybrid learning schedule, I appreciate everyone's efforts. In this week's edition of the Hornet Buzz please pay attention to the section on underclassmen pictures. You will need to register online prior to getting your picture taken if you plan to purchase a package. Also, seniors pay close attention to the Jostens information in the senior section.

Monday, March 15

Tuesday, March 16

Friday, March 19
SAT Wednesday, March 24
Students and families:
On Wednesday, March 24, only 11th and 12th grade students who signed-up to take the SAT will report to school.
All other students will remain at home and are expected to work ASYNCHRONOUSLY.
Note there will be no bus transportation on this day, but lunches will be offered at the doors as normally scheduled. Students who registered for the March 24 SAT will receive additional information this week in their school email.
Nicole Hyatt, recipient of the International "Yes I can" Award
Nicole is a sophomore in the Compass program at Great Mills. Nicole is an extremely hard-working and self-motivated student who consistently takes responsibility to first try to do things independently but will always self-advocate when needed. She is someone who is willing to work with her peers and has learned to handle change, even when it is difficult or frustrating.
Nicole is a member of the school chorus and has interacted very well with a variety of students from SAIL and Stem Programs in the GAMERZ club. Nicole leads by example and is a role model for all students! As a 10th grade student, Nicole recently completed her sixth straight high school semester maintaining all A’s. Congratulations to Nicole!
Kobe Smith
Kobe has come such a long way from when he first came to Great Mills High School, I know all the teachers and Dr. Heibel will be excited to see Kobe graduate!!
Zakiyah Imani Jali Purdy
Zakiyah is a smart, ambitious, easy-going, and generous young woman. She sees the good in everything. She enjoys giving back to her community. Friends and family mean a lot to her and she will miss them dearly when she attends college at North Carolina A & T in the fall.
Michaela Braley
Michaela is 2021 Class Secretary. She is Commanding Officer and finished 2nd out of 157 cadets at NJROTC Leadership Academy. She also is on the High Honor roll, active in marching band and lacrosse for 3 years, active in NHS and organized Operation Christmas Child. She will attend Old Dominion to study to be a surgeon.

For Seniors who placed announcement orders with Jostens, those orders are now here:
In school Seniors can pick up their announcements at the bank starting on Monday from 8AM to 1:45PM. Virtual students can contact the school and arrange a time to come and pick them up. Again, this is for Seniors who placed orders through Jostens. All orders must be paid in full before receiving them.

Great Mills Gives Back
In memory of the tragic event of March 20 when the local community came together in support of our school, Great Mills will have a month of service to honor those who helped us during that difficult time. In an effort to give back to the community, Great Mills High School is collecting donations to benefit our local homeless shelter. Underclassmen Portraits March 15-18
Underclassmen Portraits have been rescheduled for the week of March 15th. All students will be going to the Media Center during their English classes UNLESS they have English during first or second period; those students will have their pictures taken during lunch. Students will be scheduled as follows:
- Monday: Cohort A students in 9th and 10th grades.
- Tuesday: Cohort B students in 9th and 10th grades.
- Wednesday: Cohort A students in 11th grade.
- Thursday: Cohort B students in 11th grade.
Students who have chosen to remain virtual will have the opportunity to come after school on any of those days between 3:30 and 5:30.
If you are not able to make any of these dates, we will have a make-up day in the coming weeks.
To minimize contact between the students and photographers, registration will be online only.

2021 MPSSAA Minds In Motion Scholar-Athlete Scholarship
- 2021 MPSSAA Minds In Motion Scholar-Athlete Scholarship The The 2021 Minds In Motion Scholar-Athlete Scholarship program is officially underway! This 14th annual program has been sponsored by The Allstate Foundation since its' inception in 2008 and recognizes those who have excelled on the playing field and in the classroom. Applicants must have a minimum 3.25 unweighted overall GPA and have participated in interscholastic athletic activities sponsored by MPSSAA during their high school careers. Selected male and female recipients receive a $1,000 scholarship. For 2021, each of the nine MPSSAA districts will have at least one recipient selected along with "at-large" selections up to a total of 12-14 recipients. Applications consist of completing the online form (2021 Scholarship Application) which will be available until the deadline of 12 Noon on Friday, April 9th. Applicants are reminded to fill out the form carefully and double-check that all requested information has been provided before clicking "Submit".
