First Day of School

On August 31, Tamanend opened its doors for its 54th school year to welcome 878 students and 99 staff members. Planned by the Legacy and Journey Teams, 7th graders had a special day allowing them to get to know each other and where everything is at Tamanend. All grades were welcomed by Mrs. Leatherbarrow and Mr. Boyle during an assembly focused on the importance of resilience in learning and what it means to be Tamanend Together.

Picture Day

Picture Day will be Tuesday, September 13th with the make-up date being Thursday, November 3rd. Students should always dress appropriately for school and meet Tamanend’s Dress Standards. Picture Day forms will come home with your student this week and should be returned with your student on picture day.

PIAA ATHLETIC PHYSICAL FORMS

All Tamanend student athletes must complete the Family ID and the sports physical form before they are eligible to participate in a sport. This form MUST BE SUBMITTED DIRECTLY TO THE COACH. They can not be submitted to the Front Office, Nurse, Guidance or Athletic Director. The coach needs to have all the forms so they know who is eligible to participate and emergency contacts if ever needed.

Magazine & Cookie Dough Drive

Friday, September 16th we will kick off our Magazine & Cookie Dough Drive at our first school assembly. This is the only TMS fundraiser that benefits Tamanend and organized by our Student Council Leaders. The moneys raised by our drive last year were used to purchase each student a TMS Student Planner and install water bottle filling stations throughout the school.

Magazine & Cookie Dough Drive Important Dates:

  • Tuesday, September 20 – “Reach out” emails due

  • Thursday, September 22 - Collection Day 1

  • Thursday, September 29 - Collection Day 2

  • Cookie dough pick up date will be determined for a later date.

Thank you for your support!

L2U Plans for 2016-2017

A big part of our hope for our students is that they learn to advocate for themselves. Throughout the year, and especially in Tiger's Eye, we support our students in finding their voice and to "stand up" for themselves and others. Once our students leave Tamanend and go on to CB South High School, building student advocacy is continued and broadened through a program called "First LINK." As a part of LINK's service outreach, those South students work with our Tamanend students to foster community building and servant leadership. We call this "Link to Unity" (or L2U for short). This year, we have three L2U sessions. November 12 is for 8th Graders. January 14 is for 7th Graders. On March 18 we will combine with Unami's 9th graders since they will all be united at South next year.

To be invited to L2U, students can self-nominate or parents, guardians, teachers can nominate a student. To nominate a student, please fill out a quick nomination form. Thank you.

This year, because we have so many students in 8th & 9th grades who have already participated in L2U last year and would like to be involved again, we created a L2U Jr Leader program. Interested Jr Leaders should apply here and will need to attend a Jr Leader Boot Camp at CB South on October 13 at 7 p.m..

Back to School Nights

We look forward to meeting all of our parents and guardians during Back to School Nights. 7th Grade BTSN is on September 14th at 7 p.m. 8th & 9th Grade BTSN is on September 22nd at 7 p.m. To help with parking and congestion on Stuckert Road, we encourage parents and guardians to consider carpooling if at all possible. Your student will bring home a BTSN Brochure completed by them so that you know what to do and where to go on BTSN. Please call (267-893-2901) or email the Main Office if you have any questions.

Tamanend Parent Council
