Leadership Day, Ice Cream Social & Art Fair!

Dear Pleasant Lake Elementary Parents,

Our Annual Leadership Day, Ice Cream Social, and Art Fair is back! Our Book Fair will also be open in the Media Center for parents and students. Please join us on Thursday, June 2nd from 6:00-7:30 p.m.

Also make sure to stop by the gym to listen to our children share their leadership roles at multiple stations and check out the artwork placed around the Media Center and in the gym.

We will have ice cream for sale for $2.00 and a meal of an all beef hot dog, chips, and a drink for $5.00. Our staff and I look forward to seeing you at our final school wide celebration of the school year!


Grades K, 4, & 5 will participate in the morning and 1, 2, & 3 in the afternoon. Lunch and FAPES schedules will not change.

Please remember that outside visitors are not allowed to attend and watch.

We are having Happy's Pizza for Lunch. Students will only get one slice of pizza, plus fruit, vegetable & milk. If a student would like to buy an additional slice they must have $1.75 in their lunch account.

A reminder that students will be outdoors in the sun for a couple of hours.

Important reminders:

  • Provide hats and sunglasses if needed
  • Apply sunscreen before your child leaves to school
  • Make sure your child wears gym shoes
  • Children are asked to bring their own water bottle
  • Some stations will involve the use of water so please have your child place an extra t-shirt in their backpacks.

Dear Pleasant Lake Elementary 5th Grade Parents,

Please read the important information below regarding our end of the school year 5th grade activities.

Thursday, June 9th

5th Grade Celebration from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m.

Following their lunch, 5th graders will engage in fun outdoor activities on school grounds. Please note that this is not open to spectators and family.

Friday, June 10th

5th Grade Graduation beginning at 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.

EVERY child will receive their Certificate of Completion, and graduation t-shirt at the graduation event. 4 guests are allowed per child. We need your help with limiting the number of total guests to 4 or we will not have room in our cafeteria for the graduation ceremony.

5th Grade Slideshow

The 5th Grade Slideshow is a fun part of our graduation each year. We kindly ask that you send a baby picture of your child to the email address below.

You can send the picture into your child’s teacher in an envelope marked with their name and teacher’s name if you are not able to send the picture electronically.

Friday, June 10th at 11:00 a.m. - 5th Grade Outdoor Clap Out

The Clap Out will take place immediately following the graduation ceremony. Our Kindergarten-4th Grade students will line the hallways inside of the building. 5th graders will start in the upper elementary hall and exit thought the lower elementary hall doors. Our children will walk down the sidewalk in front of the building and parents can stand on both sides to cheer and take pictures as they walk to our main entrance. All parents, 5th grade students, and 5th grade teachers will end up outside of the main entrance.

I respectfully ask that you leave once you have spoken with your child and taken a picture if you wish, to ensure our dismissal process is not impacted.

Please park in the front of the building and along the side of the building. Please note that parking may be an issue, so find a safe area that doesn’t block anyone in nor blocks any driveway. Do not park in the bus loop. It’s a special last day for our kids but I need everyone to be flexible and patient.

You are invited to take your 5th grade child home with you at the conclusion of the clap out and can also take home any younger sibling(s).

Please be sure to fill out the form below If you are taking your 5th grader home. Traditionally our 5th graders go home following the clap out but this is entirely your choice. You can also note on the form if you are taking home a younger sibling.

By filling the form out below we can have younger siblings immediately ready for pickup at the conclusion of the Clap Out. We will also staff outdoors with student sign out forms.

Donations Needed

We are asking for $30 per child to help cover the costs of this event. Your donation will be used towards lunch, activities, pictures, and other entertainment.

You can place your donation in an envelope and label the envelope with your child’s first and last name, teacher’s name, and 5TH GRADE GRADUATION. A collection box for the envelopes will be placed in the main office.

You can no longer make a payment via Skyward.

Lastly, we need volunteers to assist with our celebration along with some donations. Remember the celebration on June 9th is not open to visitors. Only volunteers and staff will be in attendance to assist and supervise students.

Dear Incoming PLE Kindergarten Parents,

A friendly reminder to please read the Incoming Kindergarten Newsletter and to register your child as soon as possible.

Optional COVID testing now available at the ESC

The District is now offering optional COVID testing to our staff, students, and parents. Both Rapid and PCR tests are available. The testing will take place at the Educational Services Center (850 Ladd Road, Building D Walled Lake, MI 48390) on Tuesdays and Fridays from 2-7 p.m.

The COVID testing staff, provided by a third party, will be responsible for letting people in the side door on the south side of the building.

  • If you have insurance, your insurance provider will be billed.
  • If you do not have insurance, there is a cost of $110.00 for a PCR test and $50.00 for a rapid test - This comes as a result of the Federal Government no longer providing funding for testing.

There will be signage placed both inside and outside of the building. To set up an appointment for testing, please complete this requisition form.

Breakfast and Lunch

For the 2021-22 school year, breakfast and lunch is free for all students. If you would normally fill out a form to receive free or reduced lunch, we ask that you do so for accounting purposes. Forms are available on the district food service web page.

Students are also able to bring lunch from home. This year students will be able to bring a lunch box if that is preferred over a paper bag.

Children can grab their breakfast from the cafeteria upon entering school first thing in the morning.

Kroger Community Rewards Program

The PTA needs your help in providing our students and staff with as many resources as possible. One way the PTA helps is by contributing the funds earned through the Kroger Community Rewards program. If you shop at Kroger, we ask you to enroll your card to earn money for the PTA. This program does not take away your rewards earned toward gas or any other benefits. It is an additional way that Kroger gives back to the community. If you were enrolled in the past, please make sure to re-enroll and select Pleasant Lake Elementary PTA to earn the community rewards. You can follow the link provided here

Also, if you have other family members (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.) that shop at Kroger or Kroger affiliated stores encourage them to enroll their rewards card and select your student’s PTA for community rewards. Every little bit helps our students and staff.

Absences and Notes to School

If you intend to keep your child home on a school day for any reason, please use our attendance hotline at 248-956-2890. You may leave a voicemail message 24 hours a day. If we do not receive a call from you, we will call you to make sure that your child is indeed absent.

The Transportation Department will not issue bus passes for after school study, play dates etc. Bus passes will be issued for shared custody, day care, babysitting, or other emergencies. The Transportation Department will also issue year-long passes for in-district transfer and school of choice students when there is room on the bus.

If your child's transportation/dismissal for the end of the day changes in any way, please send in a note at the beginning of the day to your child's teacher or the office. If this changes during the school day, please call our secretaries before 3:00 p.m. We will always make sure your child gets to the correct place at the end of the day, but we ask for your help with this by notifying us early in the day or with a note. Thank you!

Communication is very important to us at Pleasant Lake Elementary. Parents will be notified and updated in a variety of ways throughout the school year.


It is critical that parents keep an updated email address and let us know if it changes as soon as possible. Parents may update this information for us on Skyward Family Access. All teachers at Pleasant Lake utilize Skyward Family Access to communicate with parents. Report cards, lunch account information, progress reports, attendance and other important information will always be posted on Skyward Family Access. If you are a new family to Walled Lake Schools or have misplaced or lost your Family Access ID and password, please click HERE to get connected.


Our school newsletter will be sent electronically to parents once a month. An archive of newsletters is also posted to our school website under the For Parents tab.
