Volunteer Appreciation Pictures
Thank you for contributing to our volunteer thank you collage! I know your plates are full right now so I appreciate the extra effort!
Teacher/Classroom/Schoolwide Volunteer Thank You
I also encourage you to send a thank you message to your families for their support during the year with field trips, class parties, JAM, library, music, centers, filing/copying and now supporting distance learning! You could even video a segment of a Zoom/Google Meetup with your students and have all the students say "Thank You Rm...volunteers, we appreciate you!" Or something to that effect.
Committees/Additional Duties
Please take some time to review these documents.
A follow-up to some questions asked at our last staff meeting:
Science Adoption Committee/Distance Learning Committee: Theses committees will either meet during the day w/sub release time or if afterschool meetings are held, pink card hours can be earned. Therefore these positions are not considered an additional duty/committee.
Leadership Team: Given that we are going to make some major changes to our school program next school year, I highly recommend we maintain our Leadership Team as means to collaborate in a small group and then share back and forth with grade-level teams. It will not be an effective use of our staff meeting time to only focus on logistical issues of distance learning when we will have a variety of additional initiatives that will require our focus and time during the year.
We will finalize our Additional Duties at our Tuesday, 5/19 staff meeting. We will not sign-up for any duties until next August when all new staff members have joined us and we have a better understanding of what our school year will look like and when meetings will be scheduled.

Appreciation/Success Padlet
Thank you to those of you who have taken a few moments to give shout-outs and share appreciations on our padlet! It looks much better filled with your kind thoughts! I encourage you to continue to add to our appreciations and success padlet below! We don't really have a lot of together time, but I know you are doing things to help one another out and make our days more successful. Share your appreciation and share your success below. Thank you to one pawsitive anonymous soul who added an appreciation so far! Let's continue to fill up our page!

May 22: Final Instruction Materials Collection Time TBD/Drive-By Only
Turning in Completed Work
We will have prescheduled times for your family to come to school to drop-off completed student work. Please see the schedule below and please follow the schedule which ensures that we will not have more than 38 families coming through at a time.
- This Friday, May 22 is the day to turn in all remaining completed student work, classroom novels and any additional items your teacher is requesting to be returned.
- This is the last collection day for library books so please bring them in for drop-off.
- If you did not pick-up your child's medications earlier this month, then you can do so on Friday during you designated time.
- 5th graders who are not continuing with music in middle school and have district instruments should drop the instruments off during the designated times on Friday.
Returning Chromebooks
Families who have checked out Chromebooks have two options for return.
- Families may return the Chromebook on your materials collection day (either Th., 5/28 or Fri., 5/29 depending on the last name). Families that are moving and have Chromebooks checked out are to return the Chromebooks on these materials collection days.
- Families may keep the Chromebook during the summer. Current K-4th graders may keep their Chromebook and return during our walk-through registration (if we have one) or during the first week of school. Current 5th graders may keep their Chromebooks over the summer and will be asked to return the Chromebooks to school during the last week of July so that they can be cleaned and prepared for redistribution. More specific directions will be provided towards the end of July.
Final Materials Collection
We have prescheduled times for your family to come to school to collect final student materials and belongings that are from the classroom. Please see the schedule below and please follow the schedule which ensures that we will not have more than 38 families coming through at a time to collect materials.
Final Events fo 19-20
We have two weeks of school remaining. Please mark your calendar for the following upcoming events. May is also Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. Please look at the section below to learn about influential Asian Pacific Americans from California as well as resources you may want to share with your children. We will be having one final Virtual Principal's Coffee/Tea this coming Thursday morning. Check the link below to join. There is more information about some of these events below this section:
Grading for Trimester 3
CVUSD is converting the grading system for middle and high school to Credit/No Credit for the second semester in order to hold students harmless during distance learning. This decision follows guidelines from the CA State Department of Education and is in line with what UC (University of California) and CSU (California State University) systems are accepting due to the Pandemic. To keep in line with this, elementary report cards for this trimester will include marks reflecting students' efforts and comments focused on what students have worked on, how they are doing, any areas of improvement, and suggestions for what to work on during the summer. Teachers will not be providing standard grades (1, 2, 3) for the 3rd trimester and these boxes will remain blank. You will receive some additional information regarding 3rd Trimester grading this week. Report Cards will; be emailed home to you by your teachers.
Kindergarten and 5th Grade Promotions
The links to these virtual prerecorded celebrations will be shared with you the day of your child's celebration: May 27 for both Kindergarten and 5th Grade. You are free to share the links with your family and friends. 5th Grade will also be invited to come to school at prescheduled times on Wednesday, 5/27 to collect your 5th-grade advancement certificate and celebration bag. More specific information will be coming from your child's teacher.
Dates in later May TBD: CUM folder work (report cards will be emailed home this year so no envelope stuffing required!). Jeanine will be coordinating some work times as we move into mid-May to prep CUM folders for the end of the year.
Th., May 28 and Fri., May 29: Student End of Year Materials Pick-Up TBD/Likely Drive-By Only
Returning all student materials from the classrooms. Teachers will also be on hand for this.
Less is More: Suspended-Instruction and Distance Learning
May 26-May 29
This will be the last week of school. You will really only have time to meet with your students on Tues., 5/26 and Wed., 5/27 since Thursday and Friday morning will be spent doing materials pick-up.
This will be a week focused on connecting with our students, planning fun activities, even engaging some classroom parent leaders to lead some virtual games with your class. Celebrate your time together. Share favorite memories from the year. Talk about what students are hopeful about in the coming school year. Review Second Step lessons, add in Mind Yeti and GoNoodle, build in time for your community circles. Please think through how we can help students do some summer planning with social distancing so they are thinking about that.
Need an Interpreter to Communicate with Families?
Trimester 3 Report Cards
The Trimester 3 Report Cards are due to me this Wednesday, May 20. Please make sure you carefully review the guidance document with information on how to complete the report card and how to access the comment section.
- Please send me an email when your report cards and Distance Learning comment sections are ready for review.
- Once I have reviewed them, I will let you know if they are ready to sign or if any corrections are needed.
- After updating any corrections (if any), then you can make a PDF of your class report cards and add your electronic signature to each student's report.
- Send me your final class report card set w/ e-signatures. That is what I will print out to be placed in each student's CUM file.
I am sending out a report card letter to families to explain how this report card will be different. I've included a copy for your reference. You do not need to do anything with this letter. I will be sending the report card letter home this week once we have the translated copies so parents will have time to read it before receiving the report cards.
Email Report Cards on 5/29
You will email report cards home on the last day of school. I encourage you to prepare the emails by Thursday, 5/28 to each family and then "Schedule" the email to be sent home on Fri., 5/29 no later than 1pm.
Scheduling an Email
To schedule an email, go down to the Blue Send button at the bottom left of your email. Click on the arrow to the right on the Send Button and you can schedule your emails to be sent at a specific time. Then click "Schedule Send" to select a preferred sending time. You can opt for a preselected time or you can select a specific time. Please have your individual report card emails go be sent out no later than 1pm on Fri., 5/29. If you have families with dual custody, make sure to send each parent with educational rights a copy of the report card.
Questions? Just ask!
Interpreter Services
To request an in-person interpreter, fill out the online Interpreter Request form (below) with the required information to submit your interpreter request.
A minimum of two weeks notice is needed for an "in-person" interpreter. On occasion, an interpreter can be found on shorter notice, but that is generally not the norm and should not be expected. An email will be sent on your behalf to request an interpreter within 24 hours of the first workday after your request has been received. You will be included on that email and will be notified via email when your interpreter request has been filled.
For last-minute interpreting needs, you and the family can use the Language Line. Click the link for the directions.
