Updates from Ms. Rogers
We are in the home stretch! We have reminded students that this is the most important time of the year. Even though we are close to the end we are not there yet. Your students may have shared with you that we have been implementing a few incentives to keep students motivated and focused. They have been great. Students received their first reward last Thursday.
Starting next week, our End of Year testing begins. Below are a few reminders as we prep for testing:
- Stay focused
- Be on time and attend school every day
- Participate in class and stay engaged
We want everyone to have a great end of year. We appreciate you talking with your students about making the right decisions and doing their best.
Language and Literature Updates (ELA)
The 8th grade reading EOG will be on Wednesday, May 29th, taken on paper (no computer). Students are encouraged to bring a highlighter with them on the day of the test to assist with marking evidence and pulling out important information from the reading passages. Over the last month we have worked our way through the released EOG to practice test taking strategies and to work on building stamina. A few final tips for our students:
- Take your time.
- Get a good night's sleep.
- Refer back to the text to help you answer questions.
- Use the strategies that work for you.
- Don't let test stress keep you from doing your best.
Science Updates
This month in science we will be finishing up EOG Review.
Closer to the end of the year, students will have the opportunity to participate in Science End of they Year activities. These activities include: making ice cream, creating a "helmet" and "parachute" for an egg and dropping it 20 feet, and a pH sampling where students will sample different soda's and drinks after they test the pH of each. If you would like to provide materials for the end of the year science activities or help Ms. Colvin and Mrs. Crawford cover the cost, please send them an email asking how you could help.

Individuals and Societies Updates (Social Studies)
Mr. Miller and Mrs. Foote-Hudson are preparing review lessons and encourage students to review material before test day. Students can access google classroom and teacher websites for End of Year review material.
Math Updates
We are going through our last unit (Scientific Notation) this week, while also using guided study time to review for EOGs.
The last day to turn in missing work is Thursday.
Electives Updates
Testing Tips from Mrs. Kimel
- Get a good night's sleep before the test.
- Eat a good breakfast the morning of your test.
- Think positive! Before you start the test, think of a happy memory to put you in a positive state of mind.
- If you feel stressed, take some slow, deep breaths. This will bring your heart rate back to normal and calm your mind.
- If you are working on a tricky question, mark what you think the answer is, and flag the question so you can come back to it later. The answer might come to you when you go back to it, or another question could give you a clue to the answer.
- Don't worry about what other students are doing, stay focused on your test.
- When you finish, go back and check your work.
- Give your very best effort on the test, and then when it's finished, don't worry about it any more.
Updates from Mrs. Kimel
It has been an honor to work with these students, and I wish them all the best in high school. I know they are ALL capable of great things, and I look forward to hearing about those great things in the future.
Thank you for allowing me to be a part of their educational and personal journeys. I am proud of these Wildcats!
Final Thoughts
Have a great summer!
