District 103
School Board Highlights
Tuesday, November 1, 2022
School Calendar
The Board reviewed the school calendar for the 2023-2024 school year. The calendar is similar to the current calendar in start and end dates as well as days off for breaks and holidays. The first day of school is tentatively set for Thursday, August 24, and the last day would be Wednesday, June 5. While the start and end dates don’t align with Stevenson High School’s calendar, the rest of the dates are similar. The Board is expected to approve the calendar at its next meeting on Tuesday, November 15.
School Fees
The Board reviewed school fees for the 2023-2024 school year. The fee increases would align with the consumer price index, which would realize about a 5 percent increase. Fees include technology equipment as well as supplies. Fees are similar to those in area school districts. The Board is expected to approve the school fees at its next meeting on Tuesday, November 15.
Illinois Report Card
Each year, the State of Illinois publishes an interactive report card for each school and district that provides extensive information on academic progress, district and school environments, student/teacher/administrator demographics, and finances. District 103 has one school rated as Exemplary (Half Day) and two schools rated Commendable (Daniel Wright and Sprague), according to the metrics that make up those designations.
Preliminary Tax Levy
The Board conducted a review of the proposed tax levy of $35,676,438. Eighty-six percent of the district’s revenue comes from property taxes. The tax levy determines the amount of taxes District 103 receives from property owners. A public hearing on the proposed tax levy is set for 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 15.
Veregy Update
The Board reviewed information regarding potential energy savings through joint purchasing for upgraded lighting, HVAC, and technology. Additional information from the company and districts that would be part of the joint purchasing is required prior to making decisions. The Board will review the topic again at a future meeting.
School Maintenance Grant
The State School Maintenance Grant will provide $50,000 in matching funds to the district for improvements on facilities. The grant money will be used for tuckpointing throughout the district.
Board of Education Meeting
The next Board of Education meeting will occur at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 15. The notice and agenda can be found on the District 103 Board meeting website page.
