Principal's Message

Greetings Fir Grove Families!

We've had two months of learning and time is flying by! A big THANK YOU for attending the parent-teacher conferences! We appreciate your time and expertise in learning about your children from you, your child’s most influential teacher.

As we move through this first part of the school year we are seeing positive results in academic achievement and social growth. This can be attributed to all our students being encouraged, supported, and challenged each day to achieve their best by our staff. Another essential factor that helps in this growth is the strong, collaborative relationship we have between home and school. Also, a pinch of fun sprinkled throughout the day is helpful too.

We know that learning requires a lot of energy and concentration, so we ask families to ensure students come to school well-rested and prepared for school.

It is energizing to see our student's smiles as they enter Fir Grove each day! Fir Grove’s goal is to provide a well rounded educational experience for all our students and appreciate all our families’ support in that mission.

Inclement Weather

Beaverton School District Inclement Weather Information When the weather outside gets inclement, school schedules could be affected. The District generally makes inclement weather decisions by 5:15 a.m., posting them by 5:30 a.m. on the District website and on social media. All Portland Metro area media outlets are also notified and announce the information on TV newscasts and online. Parents and guardians that have opted in for SchoolMessenger will receive timely notifications.

The District makes decisions based on the ability to operate school buses safely; the ability of parents and students to drive safely; and the ability of students to walk safely. The decision that is made will be for the entire District. (As always, parents may choose to make different decisions based on their particular location.)

We welcome the opportunity to share this information with you on the progress we are making to improve academic achievement for each student in the Beaverton School District. We are making progress.

In 1999, the Oregon Legislature enacted ORS 329.105 requiring that the Oregon Department of Education produce and issue annual report cards for all schools and districts. The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), signed by President Obama on December 10, 2015, encourages schools and educators to innovate and create systems that address local needs. As a part of this work, the Oregon Department of Education redesigned the School and District report cards to engage and inform families about their school’s approach to learning, academic and extracurricular offerings, and student performance.

The School At-A-Glance Profiles include graphics showing how a school or district compares to the statewide average in categories like chronic absenteeism, graduation rates, average class size and more. The profiles were developed with extensive input from Oregon families, including families of historically underserved students.

The data points represent a more comprehensive approach to evaluating and measuring a school’s impact on students. In five minutes or less parents can get the comprehensive look at their school or district that they’ve been requesting. All of these changes are part of Oregon’s Plan which is the state of Oregon’s plan for meeting federal requirements under the Every Student Succeeds Act.
