Keynote: Dr. Mike Villarreal, Student Futures Network
“The Impact of Dual Credit on Postsecondary Outcomes: A Strategy for Achieving TX60x30 Goals for Region 20”
In Texas, public schools experienced an increase in the share of their high school students enrolling in and graduating from college when they expanded dual credit participation and increased the amount of dual credit earned. Dr. Michael Villarreal will share the results of his study of dual credit and other findings that can be used to strengthen the impact of existing dual credit programs in Region 20. He will also outline a dual-credit strategy for Region 20 that would allow us to reach our Texas 60x30 policy goals. Dr. Villarreal’s study is based on following more than 3 million Texas public high school students from high school entry to eight years post high school graduation. It represents the most extensive study of dual credit.
