Library News
Here's what is happening in October: 5th grade is wrapping up an introduction to poetry unit and have all created their own acrostic poems. 4th grade has been working on a Science Fiction genre study and will be working on creating their own science fiction short stories. 3rd grade is working on a weather unit and will have a meteorologist team visiting after fall break to launch a weather balloon, and observe and record the data collected. We have also kicked off a lunch-time book club with 3rd graders, which they love. 2nd grade is working on comparing and contrasting fiction and non-fiction texts. 1st grade is learning about Caldecott award books and has been practicing self-checkout. Kindergarten has been learning about using shelf markers when visiting the library and is having fun coming to the library with their 3rd grade Kinder buddies. And Pre_K learned about making opinions and "voting" based on those opinions. Up next, we will be discussing pumpkins and the season of autumn.
Important dates: On October 10th at 1:10 we will have our Sequoyah read-around for 3rd-5th graders! They will hear book talks from teachers and administrators about all 15 of the Sequoyah nominees for 2017! We can't wait!
On October 13th, the library will host its first extended hours night for Eisenhower students and families. We will be there from 3:30 until 7:30 with maker kits such as Keva Planks, Little Bits circuit sets, and BOOKS! We will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by having a display and focus on books by and about Hispanic peoples and families. Come see us!
