Principal's Challenge
A Guide to Distance Learning at Home
With an ever-changing online learning landscape, our kids are spending an exorbitant amount of time in front of a screen. What impact does that have on their well-being? How can we ensure that our kids are learning?
Join Common Sense as we will explore three practical ways parents can integrate distance learning purposefully in their home. Families will leave with resources and a plan to address our current educational realities.
Participants will learn:
Specific strategies to engage their child in learning
Strategies to keep your child/teen motivated during distance learning
Specific ways to integrate tech tools effectively
This FREE parent live-streamed webinar event will occur on September 15, 2020 from 5pm to 6pm.
Tickets are limited for the attendees who can participate in the webinar. Tickets for watching the live-streamed event on YouTube will be available once the attendee tickets are gone. You will receive the link to the webinar or the YouTube viewing a few hours before the event.
AT HOME LEARNING TIPS
At Home Learning Tips
Establish routines and expectations.
Have a dedicated space for online meetings that are quiet, free from distractions, and well lit with a flat surface for the device, a workspace, and any necessary materials.
Balance screen time and non-screen time activities. Encourage your student to complete the PE activities that are suggested by their teacher.
Students should take brain breaks and move regularly as they study.
Discuss what your student is learning and ask questions.
Establish times for quiet and reflection.
Remain mindful of your student’s stress and anxiety.
Annual Parent Notification
The Annual Parent Notification was sent electronically to families by email. You should be able to electronically sign the form and submit it. If not, you can print out and sign the pages that require signatures and email a photo or scanned copy to taorminal@unionsd.org
Please sign and submit by 9/1/2020.
Attendance During Distance Learning
If your student is not able to attend distance learning for whatever reason please remember to call in your student's absence to the attendance line, even if you have notified the teacher. With their busy schedules, they may not have a chance to relay the message to the office until later in the day. Please leave a message with the date of the absence, your child's first and last name, who their teacher is, and why they are absent. It is important that you call first thing the morning of the absence so that you do not receive a phone call later in the day. The Attendance Line number is 408-267-4887.
