Instructional Technology Tools and Tips

October 2015 Edition

I enjoyed visiting each of the schools last month, meeting with teachers, sharing technology resources and learning more about the technology that teachers are currently using in the classrooms. My goal this month is to begin working with students. This month I want to feature some awesome bookmarking tools available for teachers and students.

Helpful Links

I introduced Edmodo to many of you last month and I know you still have lots of questions. Below are some links to help those that were interested in using Edmodo. It is an excellent, free tool. For math, English, special education, math specialist and reading specialist the Snapshot tool is a great way to assess students on the SOLs all year long. I sent directions on how to create accounts through Taskstream. If you still need help please contact me.

Why use Edmodo?

Tutorials on how to use features in Edmodo.

Teachers' Guide to Edmodo

Microsoft Office Online is a new feature now available through your Edmodo account.

  • Gain direct access to Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint from within Edmodo - without the burden of extra accounts or permissions

  • Work with students to upload, create, edit, and view files, all in one place.

Later this fall, they will also be able to log into Edmodo with their Office365 credentials, and utilize the storing and sharing capabilities of Microsoft OneDrive directly from their Edmodo accounts.

Google Hangouts

Instead of adding the calendar to the newsletter I'm going to add the link to the website where you can access all the Google Hangouts offered. Remember, you can also view the past events at your convenience. There are also lesson plans on this website.
