Causes of the Civil War
Wilmot Proviso was apart of this act in 1846 in Pennsylvania. He wanted to end slavery. The extension of slavery to land ceded by Mexico that would divide congress.
Missouri Compromise of 1820
in 1820, Henry Clay and the North and South did expansion of slavery into the New Western territory. Half of the country had to be slave free and the other half had to be save heavy.
Compromise of 1850
The Compromise of 1850 was prevented further territory expansion of slavery while strengthening the fugitive slave act. This was taken in the South. By passing the law Henry Clay and Stephen Doglulas allowed California to be a free state.
Fugitive Slave Act
The Fugitive act was an act respecting fugitive fro justice and person escaping from the service of their masters including the Southern and North. The slaves were running away from their owners and they wanted to make a law to stop it.
Kansas -Nebraska act
The Kansas-Nebraska Act was were Stephan Dogulas proposed a new doctrine "popular soverienty". He did this to keep popular soverienty. he act let people decide if they want slavery. Organized the remaining territory acquired in the Louisiana Purchase so that they could be added to union as states.
Bleeding Kansas is the term used to describe the period of violence during the settling of the Kansas temiton. The Kansas- Nebraska act over turned the Missouri compromise use of boundaries between slaves and free territory. They used the principle of popular soverienty.
Dred Scott v. Sandford
The Dred Scott v. Sandford was issued on March 6, 1857. Delivered by Chief Justice Roger Taney, this opinion declared that slaves were not citizens of the United States and could not sue in Federal courts. Having been on free soil he argued that he could not be taken back into slavery.
Lincoln- Douglas Debates
The Lincoln- Douglas debates was a serious of seven debates between Lincoln. For the senate in Illinois and senate for Stephan Douglas. The price they sought war the seat insensate.
