The Weekly Roar
November 12, 2018
I want to thank each and every one of you for sharing your children with me. I am very honored to be their teacher, and thankful every day that I get to come here and do what I do. I hope that each of you has a wonderful, restful, and enjoyable, Thanksgiving with your loved ones!
Love,
Mrs. Blackman
A NOTE FROM MR. SCHREY!
Hello!
I am very excited about the upcoming program this week! A few final reminders...The doors will open on Thursday, November 15th at 5:15 PM. Fifth graders will meet on the stage and be ready to start the show at 6:00 PM. Fourth-grade families can save a seat in the cafeteria and then meet in their homerooms at 5:15 for the Writer’s Celebration. Students should be dressed in “Hippie” clothes for the performance. The “Sergeants” (Paxtyn C, Haylen B, Jake S, Cooper S, Casidy S, Hattie T, Elliot S, Graham T) will be provided a fake mustache but may bring a better quality one if they want.
The book fair will be open in the library after the performance! Please contact me at the school if you have any questions.
Thank you!

- Quiz: Thursday, November 15, 2018
- We will be working on capitalizing geographic terms, proper nouns and proper adjectives.
Reading:
- Reading assessment: Wednesday, November 14, 2018.
- We will be working on our fREADom reading. No, that is not a typo. :)
- We will continue to work on summarizing using GIST and checking our comprehension by using Author’s Portrait.
- We will continue to practice our choral reading. This is a great way to help with fluency. We read a paragraph together out loud as a class at a pace that I set. The more we practice this, the faster we will get and the more fluent we will become. The kids really have fun doing this!
- Reading Vocabulary Words/Phrases: analysis, argument, causality, comparison, evidence, explain, identify, parallelism, persuasive text, relationship
- Vocabulary Quiz: Thursday, November 15, 2018
- We will also be working on our sixth sign post from Notice and Note, Memory Moment.
- Your child should continue reading nightly for 20 minutes and then getting their reading log initialed.
Social Studies:
- We will continue looking at events that lead up to the Declaration of Independence such as, The French and Indian War, The Proclamation of 1763, The Quartering Act, The Stamp Act, The Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party and The Intolerable Acts. The students will choose a side, loyalists or patriots, and prepare for a mock trial!
The students will begin their research on key figures that helped write and participated in the Declaration of Independence. They will include facts such as, date of birth, key position the individual held, what influence they had on the independence, etc. They will be creating a Smore flyer, much like the one Thomas Paine wrote, persuading others to side with freedom.
