JRE Families,

As many of you have heard from SPS central office communications, starting on Monday March 14, mask guidance in SPS is shifting from mandatory to strongly encouraged. Although the pandemic we have faced together has been tragic, I hope recent guidance from public health signals a shift from pandemic to endemic.

We recognize that these are uncertain times for many families. With that in mind, staff have been planning and delivering lessons designed to help students feel better about upcoming changes. I’ve had an opportunity to speak to many students in the lunchroom and at recess. Student thoughts on masking range from excited to be done, to very nervous. One thing rang true, our children care for each other, and our children take cues from their families. Please continue to speak with your children about your expectations for them during these uncertain times.

Finally, I’d like to recognize the brilliant women in our community! You are an inspiration to EVERY student and staff member at JRE!

In partnership,

Brent Ostbye

Frozen Auditions

Calling all future TAJA

The TAJA spring musical is Frozen Jr. and we are looking for 4th and 5th grade students from our feeder schools to audition for Young Elsa and Young Anna. The audition will be held on March 18th on-site at each school. The times will be publicized closer to the date once we have gauged each school’s interest. The time commitment would be twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays typically from 4pm – 5:00pm, up until tech week. Transportation to and from TAJA rehearsals can be provided by a JAMS parent volunteer.

In TAJA Shows, everyone, regardless of Race, Gender Identity or Ability status will be considered for every role.

Chihuly Garden and Glass is offering free family tickets to their exhibition at the Seattle Center to all Title I schools. We have had a Memorandum of Understanding with Chihuly for 8 years. Usually it’s for field trips, but due to COVID-19, they’re giving families direct access to the exhibition for free. There are 10,000 tickets available through May 31, 2022.
