PES Arrival and Dismissal Reminders
Traffic Flow
All traffic should enter campus via Pittsboro Elementary School Road or Farrell Street. Please remember that PES Road is a two way street. Cars should not pass the line, this puts yourself and others in danger of a head on collision.
Parking
Visitors may park in the gravel lot across the street. The upper gravel lot is mainly reserved for our bus drivers and PreK families.
Arrival
Early arrival is from 7:00-7:40. These students must go straight to the cafeteria where staff are on duty to provide coverage. Students dropped off before 7:40 should not wait by outside doors. Please do not sit and wait in the carpool line before 7:40. Normal carpool arrival begins at 7:40-7:55. Once arrival begins please pull all the way up to the designated areas to keep the traffic line flowing. If your family chooses to walk your student in, please check in through the main office to receive a badge.
Dismissal
Students will not be dismissed from the office after 2:15 PM. If it is after 2:15 PM, you will be asked to utilize regular dismissal procedures. Dismissal begins at 2:55.
Bus
Information regarding bus routes will be available during Open House. If you are interested in riding the bus, please visit the main office to fill out the appropriate forms.
Carpool
Please display the school-issued carpool tag when picking up your child and make sure your child knows his/her number. Please wait in your car at designated signs until an adult assists your child into your vehicle. Once your child is inside your vehicle, and has buckled up by themselves, please wait for the carpool lane to be dismissed and pull off slowly.
Here is a slideshow to help explain our double lane dismissal procedures. Share this with any family members or care takers that you have approved to pick up your child up on a daily basis. Please note carpool tags are a vital part of this procedure, in the event a carpool tag is not displayed, you will be asked to park and show photo ID in the main office to pick up your child.
Walkers **New Tags this year**
Please show the school-issued walker tag when picking up your child from the cafeteria. In the event a walker tag is not shown, you will be asked to visit the main office to show photo ID in the to pick up your child. Tags can be picked up during Open House.
YMCA
The YMCA is on campus for after school care.
Transportation Changes
All transportation changes must be emailed to the classroom teacher (prior to 8:00AM) or in writing to ensure teacher is aware of the changes. Last minute and/or emergency changes must be made to the main office before 2:00 PM. Please refrain from calling after 2:00 PM to make transportation changes as it will disrupt our dismissal procedures for the entire school. Any time a student’s transportation home changes from his/her regular routine, the teacher must receive a written note/email from the parent. Staff are directed to send students home the regular way unless a note is presented - a verbal request from the child to change transportation home will not be honored.
Census Day Information
Census Day
April 1, 2020, is Census Day. The local organizing committee for the census is encouraging all of our families to complete their census forms online, by phone or through the mail by April 1. It’s important and only takes about 10 minutes to complete. Our census data has lasting impacts on what Chatham County becomes for our children and students. It impacts new roads, schools, hospitals and even businesses. And all information shared is protected by law and cannot be shared with any other government agency, landlords, schools or employers. So no matter an individual’s legal status, age, race or national origin, that person should be counted. So again, please complete your household’s census form by April 1 because it is safe, easy and important.
Cold/Flu Season Reminders
Nominate a CCS Distinguished Alum!!
Jot down this number or put it in your phone: 919-545-7975. Use it to nominate someone for the Chatham County Schools Distinguished Alumni Program. Think about someone who graduated at least 10 years ago from Chatham County Schools and deserves recognition. Leave the name of that person on the voicemail when you call 919-545-7975.
Community Stakeholder Meetings for Seaforth High School Attendance Zone
Chatham County Schools is constructing a high school on Seaforth Road. The projected opening for Seaforth High School is in the fall of 2021. Seaforth will possibly serve a portion of students who are presently assigned to PES. An integral part of the complex process of establishing the attendance zone for Seaforth High School is to hold Stakeholder Input Meetings.
All meetings will start at 6:30 pm and will be finished between 7:30 and 8:00 pm.

Sign up to be a Thrift Store Volunteer!
Our volunteers at the Thrift Shop last year helped us to add over $20,600 to our budget for this year. This money pays for field trips, classroom and teacher support, schoolwide projects and clubs and a lot of fun events for the students and community.
We are really struggling to get volunteers to come out for workgroups this year. If the 6-8pm window isn’t working for your schedule, feel free to drop in AT ANY TIME and help in the store! Ask for the manager on duty and let them know you have some time and want to volunteer for Pittsboro Elementary School.
We have our workgroups scheduled through the end of 2019. Check out the schedule, grab a fellow mom or dad, and come out for just ONE workgroup! The hours add up and mean so much for the school!
