Course Selection Next Steps
We are continuing to move through our course selection process. At this time, teachers have made recommendations for English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and World Language courses. Your student has likely completed their preliminary elective selection form on which they indicated their top four elective choices for next year. Descriptions of electives can be found by clicking on the links below:
Beginning early next week, students will be able to view their course requests on PowerSchool and will be provided a paper copy of their current course requests. We will be meeting with students to review their requests, and we ask that you do the same with your student. You will note that the paper copy that is shared with your student includes a sign-off sheet and a space for changes to be made. Please complete this form, indicating you have reviewed the courses with your student and noting any questions or changes you may have so that the school counseling team can update course requests and follow up as needed. If your student did not complete the elective request form, they can use this sheet to provide their top four elective choices or make necessary changes.
As a reminder, students and families are invited to join us for Program of Studies Night at WHS on Thursday, April 7. From 6:30-7:00 PM, attendees will receive a brief overview of Watertown High School and learn about the course offerings in our Career and Technical Education and Fine, Applied, and Performing Arts departments, including information about our Engineering, Digital Media and Communications, and Medical Assisting Pathways. Following the presentation, students and families are invited to visit with curriculum coordinators to learn more about specific departmental course offerings and opportunities available to WHS students. The event will conclude at 8:00 PM.

Vocational Pathways at WHS
- Medical Assisting
- Digital Media Communication (Radio/TV Broadcasting)
- Engineering Technology
Completion of a vocational (also known as Chapter 74) pathway will result in an endorsement on a student's transcript, industry-recognized credential(s), and skills that can propel a student into further education, work, or some combination.
Students in a pathway complete the equivalent of 8 full-year courses in their field. Massachusetts state colleges and universities waive the World Language requirement for students completing a vocational pathway in high school.

Seeking Community Partners for Internship and Job Shadow Opportunities
As many of our students begin to plan for their futures and explore different careers and fields of study, they ask about opportunities to job shadow, volunteer, or even intern to gain 'on the job' experience. We are working to build a collection of community members willing to provide WHS students with these opportunities. If this is something you, or someone you know, would be willing to assist with, please complete this brief interest form. As students express interest, we may connect them with you for further discussions or opportunities. Thank you in advance!
