Arrival & Dismissal
Arrival-
Our school day starts at 8:45. Our first bell to allow students in the building rings at 8:40. Prior to that time students line up outside the front of the building (the exception is Kindergarten, which line up at the kindergarten hallway doors). It is important to remember that there is no supervision for students prior to 8:40.
Gearing has many "walkers" in our school. It is important to help our families understand that having a child outside our doors for 20 minutes, waiting unsupervised, is not going to be healthy. Please take the steps necessary to have the students arrive in an appropriate
time frame.
Late Arrival-
It is REALLY important to have children arrive on time. The ability to be where
you are supposed to be, when you are supposed to be there will serve a person
their entire life. In the event that your child arrives after 8:45, we ask that the
adult accompanying the student come to the door to ring in. If that
happens, the tardy is "excused". If that does not happen, it is "unexcused". At this time, it is not required for the adult to sign in the student. Office staff will instruct the adult to let the student in once buzzed into the front door. Office staff will sign your student in.
* Please do call the attendance line to excuse an absent student (810-676-1666)
Drop Off-
If your student is arriving by car we ask that you drop off at the designated drop off, along the sidewalk. The bus loop is not to be used for student drop off. Following these
procedures help to ensure student safety. While it could be less convenient
in a given moment, helping to secure student safety should be everyone's concern.
Dismissal-
The end of our school day is 3:00.
Kindergarten students will be released out of the Kindergarten hallway doors.
1st grade students will be released out of the 1st grade hallway doors.
2nd grade students will be released out the front doors
3rd grade students will be released out of doors #3 (recess doors)
4th grade students will be released out of doors #4 (back of building)
Students who walk or are being picked up by an approved adult will be met at the above designated doors.
Early Dismissal
If you need to pick up your student before dismissal, please do so before 2:20.
The building is extremely busy from 2:20-3:00 as students prepare for release.
It is increasingly difficult for the safety of all students if this policy is not followed.
