Reflections on the Volleyball Season
JV Coach Chris Shenckel:
"Couldn't be more happy or proud of my team this season! We had a couple of ups and downs this season but persevered over every obstacle and played fairly well against every team we played. We came out with a first-place finish in the Peck quad and took at least one set against every league game we played. This team has grown in so many ways not just on the court but off the court and as a team. It will be sad to watch these sophomores move up to varsity but I have big plans for the freshman next year and can't wait for next season!"'-
Varsity Coach Jill Grusnick:
"As the varsity coach of Dryden volleyball, I am so very proud of our program. Where we started and how far we have come, has been an amazing journey. Our coaches look forward to the seasons to come. This season we had a lot of high moments. We celebrate our wins and learned from our losses. We look ahead to the start of districts on Monday the 31st. This year Dryden is hosting! Come out and support your Cardinals!!"
Seniors . . .
Skylar Graham:
"Playing volleyball has been a part of my life for the past 6 years. During that time, I learned a lot. Playing with multiple teams and different coaches has taught me there is no place like home. The feelings that you have on the court are something that I can’t explain. I am grateful for the girls that I am playing with this year, and I wish the team luck next year. My advice for upcoming grades would be to just enjoy the time you have, even if it isn’t the best season, because you will never get this feeling again."
Rilynn Lindsay:
"Volleyball has always been one of my favorite sports to play and it has taught me so much. I didn’t play volleyball and this year it’s one of my biggest regrets. This year hasn’t been the easiest for me due to me having a year off. Although I have been doing well this year I can only imagine how much better I could be if I played last year. Volleyball has taught me to not be hard on myself for messing up, it’s also taught me how to really enjoy a sport. I’ve never liked basketball so I’ve never really enjoyed playing it but hopefully knowing how to truly enjoy and have fun with a sport I can maybe enjoy playing basketball. I’m so grateful for this sport, the opportunities it’s given me, and most importantly the people that it’s brought to me. I have gained so many close friends this year due to volleyball."
Lola Abromaitis:
"Volleyball has taught me things in life where if I didn't have them, my life would be so different. The first thing it taught me was leadership.
Leadership started when I was in sixth grade and was voted team captain. And not to brag, but I have held that title proud to make my girls proud. I started to learn what the true role of being captain was. Being there for your team when they need you, being an advocate, and being the face of the team at the coin toss. Of course, there is more to it than just what I listed, but those are what stick out most to me.
Teamwork was something I never had trouble working with. But this sport taught me how to more connect and build friendships to last forever. I think all of us seniors agree that we've been playing together forever, but this year is the closest we have ever been. I love each of my girls more than they know, they're my sisters. We fight, argue, laugh, and love like sisters. I truly am going to miss my girls when we go our own ways come May.
I truly cannot begin to thank volleyball for all it has done. I am so sad to see that it will be coming to an end and I won't be living the life I've always known. Thank you, Dryden, thank you, volleyball, thank you, girls. I love you all. #2 signing out."
