Barnes and Noble Family Reading Night

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the Willow Creek Family Reading Night and Book Fair at Barnes and Noble. The night was full of family, friends, and reading fun! We hope to see you again next year!

Checking Out the Library!

In the library, we have been working on using resources (friends, library catalog, dewey system) available to us to browse, seek out, and search for library materials to suit our needs. Students have also been developing their understanding of the LRC as a place for reading, resources, and beyond- learning, collaborating, creating, and more!

Activities we have been engaging in:

  • Identifying and naming elements of fiction

  • Identifying types of fiction

  • Readers advisory

  • Using the library as a resource

Concepts we have been engaging with:

  • Recognizing and resolving an information or literature need

  • Elements of fiction (characters, setting, plot, conflict, point of view, voice, punctuation)

  • Types of fiction (fairytales, fractured tales, fables, series)

  • Means of locating resources

As students continue to build independent use of the LRC, they will continue to grow their understanding of resource organization, analysis, availability, and use!

Any S'More?

Many of our classrooms have also been participating in the Hour of Code hosted on www.code.org, www.lightbot.com, and on the kodable app found at www.kodable.com! This event encourages the Computer Scientist in all of us and promotes the idea that every student should have the opportunity to learn computer science. It helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path!

Encourage your students to continue coding on any of the above websites over the winter break to keep their minds sharp and their days fun!

Enjoy the holiday break!
