What Should I Read This Summer?
The WINNER of the 2016 Battle of the Books
This book was most highly recommended by 8 diverse students as being an important book for teachers to read aloud to their classes. While the lexile correlates to Level N, the book is 291 pages. It won even while being the longest.
The Runner-Up
Both Firefly and Cat will be in our bookroom next year. Cat in the City is Level O.
Literary Graphic Novel
This book won at least 4 major literature awards this year. Like Tan's The Arrival, it's one of those books whose medium is part of the perfection of the story.
August 19: Library Loves ELA
I'm hosting a workshop on August 19th from 9-1. Re-energize and update yourself on some basics like literature circles, weekly rituals such as "word of the week", classroom growth journeys, complex text, adding procedures to read alouds, and the best of our new biographies. This will be practical and collaborative.
