WE'RE ALL LEARNING

STUDENTS: We had a visitor on Wednesday: SAMMY. Sammy is a trained therapy dog who will be listening to students read every Wednesday morning. Thanks to Kathryn Dorsey for your time and for sharing SAMMY with us.

TEACHERS: Teachers are preparing for upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences. They're looking forward to talking with you, getting to share about your child's learning and hearing your insights. Please make sure you've signed up for a conference. https://sites.google.com/iccsd.k12.ia.us/penn-conferences/home

Our goal is that 100% of our students are represented. We want every child to have the privilege of knowing people who care about them are talking together.

Fun Night was FUN and profitable.

What an amazing success! Thanks to our PTO, parents and staff for working together for our students. Preliminary results are that the PTO raised over $13,000!!!!

HALLOWEEN Parade and Parties

We will celebrate Halloween on Tuesday, Oct. 31.

The whole school will be on parade at 2:00 pm. Well be outside on the playground if weather permits or through the gym. Parents are welcome to come to watch.

Teachers will provide more specific info about their classroom parties.

Please remember: dressing up is fun. Let's keep it fun. No weapons, even play weapons, are allowed as part of costumes.

Check the Lost and Found Bins when you're here for the Halloween Parade or conferences. They are located at the south doors.

CAR LINE

Parents, please remember that staff are outside for the sole purpose of keeping all the children safe. They're not trying to make your life difficult. We do know the line takes some time, but we think keeping kids safe is more important than being fast. We've given the process a lot of thought, but we're open to your observations and new ideas. Please email Principal Heffner if you have something to share. heffner.kristy@iowacityschools.org

Please help keep kids safe by:

- paying attention to the adults providing supervision and following their directions

- only load and unload your children on the sidewalk side of your car and not from the moving lane

- use the cross walks

*Remember, students may enter the building through the south doors at 7:30 am and the carline moves very quickly until about 7:45, especially if drivers are pulling forward to the furthest open space.

Parent Teacher Conferences: Nov. 9 and Nov. 15

Conferences are coming up soon. Please use this link to sign up for a time to meet with your child's teacher. We think this is a very valuable conversation.
