WEEKLY STAFF BULLETIN
January 13-17
WEEKLY STAFF BULLETIN
Good morning,
It felt good to be back last week and back on routine. Starting this week, I will begin the informal walk-thrus. So if you did not receive a formal evaluation, then I will be doing a walk-thru observation on you.
In the PD section there is a short video on the Gradual Release Model and some questions to think about. Maybe you can watch in your team meeting and do a quick discussion since this goes along with your book study. Fifth grade- even though you are reading a different book, this would be good to watch and discuss.
Also, don't forget to continue finding strengths in your co-workers and fill out a strength spotting form to recognize them.
Have a great week and next weekend is a three day weekend.
Aim High and Dream Big!!
Trish

THOUGHT STARTERS
- How would using the, "I do it, We do it, You do it together, You do it alone," model change the way you plan your lessons?
- How do the post-its hold students accountable and push them to think about their own cognition?
- Beyond shifting the cognitive load, what are the benefits of structuring lessons in this way?

Activity: “How honest are you?”
Teacher says: “Today we are going to ask for your opinion about three different stories. Your group will line up along the wall between these signs based on how strongly you agree or disagree with how the people in the stories act. If you can’t decide, you should stand in the middle or somewhere in between the two signs.”
Divide the class into three groups with an equal number of students. Follow this procedure for each story:
Read the story.
Ask the three questions and have the students in the group walk to the signs according to whether they agree or disagree. Then, ask a couple of the students why they chose to stand where they did. Have the group return to their seats.
Ask the class questions and write the responses on the board, if desired.
To extend this activity, have students create and perform role-plays using examples of what it means to be honest and have integrity.
Discuss (or have students write in their journals):
What was most meaningful from our discussion about honesty today?
Did you learn anything new?
If you have any new students that haven't taken the VIA survey, please find a time this week that they can take it. Here are the survey links:
