Franklin Pierce High School Community Newsletter
FPS District Equity Statement
DISTRICT AREAS OF FOCUS AND IMPROVEMENT:
- Equity and Social Justice
- Improved Instruction
- Family and Community Partnership
Cardinal Parents, Students, and Staff:
Our theme for 2022-23 is "CommUNITY!" We really are all in this together, and we need to be intentional about building a community that we can all be proud of.
"We are the community. The community creates the culture. The culture is what we expect and allow."
Our guiding principals are contained within our AC/DC guidelines:
- Academic Excellence: We have high expectations for all of our students. We expect all students to do their best and give their best in all that they do. Our staff is here to teach, guide, lead, and support, but the real responsibility for achieving excellence is on the shoulders of our students. Hard work is a struggle, and struggling is a part of life. We don't grow by avoiding struggle. We grow by struggling forward.
- Campus Safety: Safety is critically important for us to be successful. We will teach all of our school rules and expectations during the first two weeks of school, and we expect all students to follow the rules at all times. This will keep you and your classmates safe. We will also practice our emergency procedures so that if an emergency arises, we'll all be on the same page. Our safety mantra is, "If you see something, say something." This pertains to unsafe behaviors, hate speech, and any forms of bullying, harassment, or intimidation.
- Determination: Anything worth doing is worth doing well, and anything worth doing well is going to take some hard work and determination to accomplish. High school is a perfect time to set some goals for yourself and start putting in the hard work that's required to reach those goals. Step 1: Choose a target. What are you aiming at? What is your goal? Be specific, and make sure your goal is something that is currently beyond your reach. Step 2: Create a plan. Do some research about people who have already achieved the goals you want to achieve. Figure out how they did it, and create a plan of your own. Step 3: Get to work. There is no easy path or free pass. Once you've created your plan, it's your responsibility to get the work done. No one else can do this for you. If you put in the work and stay consistent with your plan, you will be the beneficiary of big rewards down the road.
- Community: First, we are responsible for ourselves and our own well-being. Beyond that, we have an obligation to take care of those around us (family, friends, community members). We create and strengthen our community by getting to know one another and looking out for each other. Be aware of those who might be in need. Lend a hand, if you can. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it. We're all in this together.

- Aug 31 = A Day w/ Advisory
- Sep 1 = B Day w/ Advisory
- Sep 2 = No School
Preparing for the New School Year for Parents and Students:
- Don't wait until the night before Day 1 to change your summer sleep patterns. Start getting to bed earlier and waking up earlier about a week before school starts so that you're not half-asleep during the school day. Parents, the best way you can help with this is to make sure that all electronic devices are in your possession before bedtime. The #1 reason students aren't getting enough sleep is because they're on cell phones, gaming devices, or tvs.
- Parents, please have a serious talk with your child about only using cell phones at school during appropriate times only (before school, passing periods, lunch time, after school). Cell phone use during instructional time continues to be a significant distraction from learning. Cell phones are not to be used during class time. The cell phone and social media addiction is real, and we simply can't compete with the latest tik tok or youtube video. Students who cannot manage to stay off their cell phones during instructional time will be removed from class. During class time, our one and only goal is Academic Excellence.
- Have a family talk about your goals for this school year. How are you pursuing academic excellence to prepare yourself for success in the future? What is your E after high school (Enrollment, Enlistment, Employment)? How are you getting involved in your school community (sports, music, arts, clubs, leadership, etc.)? How are you choosing your friends? Do they make you a better person? Are they helping you get closer to achieving your goals?
- Vaping: Vaping and vaping devices are not permitted at school. Students caught vaping or in possession of vaping devices will be excluded from school. Vaping has no place at school.
What's your "E" (Enrollment, Enlistment, or Employment) after high school?
Dental assistants are a key part of a team that can make a positive impact in the lives of patients and their overall health. It is a field of constant innovation, with new technologies and techniques helping promote better health and strategies. Employees value hands-on experience, reliability and a positive personality to match the social dynamic of the workplace, and CPTC's Dental Assistant program promotes all of those.
Social Justice, Equity, and Anti-Racist Resources:
In the video below: Learn about International Day of Indigenous People.
The first step in ALLYSHIP is LISTENING.
The second step is BELIEVING.
The third step is ACTION. Get involved and create the positive change you want to see in the world.
CARDINAL SPORTS!
If you are interested in getting connected with a program there are a few things to know.
- If you already registered for that sport this school year, then your registration is still valid for summer participation as long as your physical is current. Physicals are good for two years.
- Franklin Pierce High School has switched registration platforms from Family ID to Final Forms. At this time, all athletes will need to register for their sport on the Final Forms platform before being able to turn out for sports in the fall!
- Here is the current contact information for coaches at Franklin Pierce HS. Please reach out to these coaches for additional information about their summer plans.

NEW Performing Arts Center!
We are very excited about breaking ground on our new Performance Arts Center! We are in eager anticipation of the day that we can fully showcase the talents of our band, orchestra, choir, drama programs, and so much more!
- Part of the "cost" for a new Performing Arts Center is going to be a little dust, a lot of change, and even a few inconveniences. Please, bear with us as we work through the "under construction" phase with an estimated completion date of the start of the 2023-24 school year.
- Student and Staff Parking: All staff and students must park together in the parking lot alongside 112th St. The section nearest the tennis courts is reserved for staff parking. The section nearest the stadium is reserved for student parking. Students and staff must drive all the way around the school to access the new student/staff parking lot. Please, do not cut through the drop-off and pick-up zone to park.
- AM student drop-off and PM student pick-up and zones. Please, do not park in the drop-off and pick-up zones between 7:30am and 3pm. The drop-off and pick-up zones will be the same for 2022-23 as they were for the end of 2021-22.
- Main Entrance: The former main entrance to the building is no longer accessible. The new main entrance is on the south end of the main building near the student pick-up and drop-off zone.
- Handicapped Parking has been relocated to the stalls in the drop-off zone nearest the new main entrance.
- Bicycle Parking has been relocated to the 1400 building (outside the band classroom).
- Pedestrians in the drop-off and pick-up zone should use the pedestrian walkway along the fence line.
- As with all construction projects, almost everything is subject to change. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
