Field Trip
We are planning a field trip for your child’s Spanish 3 classes for Tuesday, May 1, 2018. The trip includes a visit to The San Antonio Museum of Art, El Mercado, and Milam Park. Students will be able to see firsthand the history of the Hispanic community in San Antonio, their own home and use their Spanish. Each student will be responsible for researching a particular topic and sharing the information with classmates, in Spanish, on the trip. Following the visit to downtown San Antonio, students will enjoy lunch at “Mi Tierra” restaurant, allowing students to apply food vocabulary learned in past years and communicate with the restaurant staff, teachers and each other in Spanish.
The cost of the trip is $15.00 for students, chaperones and teachers. All permission slips must be returned with a parent signature and money no later than Thursday, April 26. All students need to meet outside of the South Wing promptly at 8:45 a.m. on the day of the field trip. Buses will depart at 9:00 a.m. and return at 3:00 p.m.
Approximately 9 chaperones will be needed. Any parents who are interested in chaperoning should contact his/her child’s teacher at amarshburn@ahisd.net or awalton@ahisd.net for more information.
AAPPL (The ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages)
Each year, students in the standard program of World Language Department participate in the ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages. The AAPPL is unlike any other assessment as it addresses the World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages and uses today's communication media in which test takers perform tasks such as participating in virtual video chat, creating wikis, e-mailing, and using apps to demonstrate language ability. Students will receive a summative assessment grade for quarter 4. We will also measure growth from last year to this year. Students in my classes will be taking Interpersonal Listening and Speaking as well as Interpretive Reading and Listening.
Mariachi Performances
Every year the World Language Department students sings along with a mariachi. The performances will be on Friday, May 4th during lunch. Spanish 3 Grade Level students will be singing Cielito Lindo and the Spanish 3 PreAP Immersion students will be singing La Bamba. Students will also be able to purchase Paletas (popsicles) in order to support our two language clubs: Los Amigos and the National Spanish Honor Society. Come see your kids sing...it will be awesome!!!
Movie Night
Library Game Day
Monthly the Spanish classes within the World Language department have a cross-sectional, cross-level, and cross-program Library Game Day. The purpose of this Game Day is to build fluency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in the Target Language (Spanish). Having this cross-sectional time allows students to interact not only in a more comfortable environment but with students of various ability as well.
